Nuvi 250w will not turn on

I have a nuvi 250w that is 5 months old and it will not turn on. It was working fine and I left it plugged in to my car charger for an hour and when I returned and tried to turn it on it would not turn on. I thought maybe the charger went bad so when I got home I used my USB cable to see if it needed to be charged but no change. Only had unit for 1 day....just replaced the exact same unit for this one...it had the same problem. Won't turn on with any power source

    Have you tried pressing the reset button on the bottom of the unit where the decal is?

I had the very same problem with my 250w. After trying to push the reset button while holding "on" (which didn't do anything at all), I decided to open it. If you have a valid warranty, I'd recommend sending it for repair. Anyway, since my warranty was over, I unplugged the battery and replugged it. Miraculously, the device turned on.
If you intend to open it, here is how I proceeded:
-Remove the sticker strip (which covers the reset button)
-Unscrew the 2 screws (you'll need a special screwdriver, T6)
-Open the cover (carefully, there are wires holding the 2 pieces together) with a flat screwdriver (the most difficult part)
-Once you are done, unscrew the 3 screws that you see on the back cover to reach the battery. Then unplug the battery and replug it.
-Once you've done this, you can immediately check if it turns on.

    Thanks mate, I tried this with my daughters Nuvi 250 and found the battery plug loose. Pushed it in tight and we are sucking diesel again.

Hi,

in case you don't know how to reset your garmin nuvi, you can follow the steps below: There are two types of reset;

Performing a Standard Reset

1. Slide the power switch all the way to the left (with the Nuvi's screen facing you).
2. Hold the switch in the position for at least eight seconds.
3. Push the switch to the right to power the Nuvi back on.

Performing a Factory Reset

1. Turn your Nuvi off by sliding the power switch to the left.
2. Press your finger against the bottom right corner of the touchscreen. Hold your finger in this position.
3. Slide the power switch to the right to turn the Nuvi back on. Continue to hold you finger against the screen until you see the factory reset prompt. Tap "Yes" to perform the factory reset.

How do make the gps announce the street name to
Neither the Nuvi 250W nor the Nuvi 205W have Text to Speech (which is the feature that allows the unit to speak the street names), so you cannot make yours speak street names. I'm sorry.

My 2 yr old Garmin nuvi 200 was working fine...when I got home and turned the car off, it quit working and won't turn back on. I keep it plugged into the lighter, so it's not battery power.
No it's not the battery power: your nuvi has suffered the firmware equivalent of a stroke.

These are the steps to take to update your Nuvi 200:

Download and then run Garmin 200 WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

Garmin nuvi won't turn on
folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
