I have a Kenmore Ultra Fabric Care electric dryer, model # 96284800, it was purchased in 1988. First it would not stop when I opened the door; then it started making a funny noise for the first 60 seconds of drying - that would stop and it would dry the clothes just fine so I cleaned out the vent really well with a vacuum, it cut off as it was supposed to, but still made the funny noise for the first 60 seconds of drying, then one day it stopped in th middle of a load I was drying and it will not come back on
I would check the voltage and the dryer where cord attaches to dry to make sure you havt 220volts... check you door switch... also you have a thermofuse in back .. check for burn off wires or lose wires.. make sure dryer is unplugged... the thermal fuse with be white plastic oval in shape on the blower venting with 2 wires.. here is a pic if it uploads
The dryer is almost 15 years old! the drum rotates on two or three felt bearings in front and a ball bearing in the rear. the belt may have broken, the tensioner may have loosened. the motor goes in one direction only and starts off a centrifugal start switch. If the motor doesn't get up to speed to open the start winding, the machine just won't go. check the belt first.
