Make sure you have all of the setting on low and work your way up. Your MTX rating is only 300w which means 150 per channel. Not sure on the JL but there the best when it comes to amps. Make sure your speakers can handle the watts or better the RMS power. Must amps that are rated at 1000w only mean 500RMS. A 4 channel amplifier rated at 1000wats means to me 125RMS per channel.

I have 2 JL Audio 8W0's rated at 75 RMS. I had a MTX 280 Amp pushing them but need to replace it, what brand and size amp do you recommend for these speakers.

  • This Kicker Amp will compliment them JL Audios like nothing else. KICKER ZX Series ZX350.4 4 channels all rated @ 75 watts RMS. If it was me that would be my choice for a replacement amp.

2 MTX Thunder Problem.. Bridging?

Is there a option on the chanels that say ''Bridged''? If so, you can hook the subs up in parellel or series to get different ohm loads. Usually the lower ohms, the more power amp puts out. Those subs can handle 225 watts RMS whitch means the power it can handle constantly. If the amp gives more than 225 watts RMs, you could be at risk of blowing the sub. If you could give me the model # of the amp, I can be of more help.

I have 2 6x9 speakers up front 4 6 1/2 3-ways

Hello rjmiller4039,

Although amps with 5 channels are pretty rare, you can get one. Alpine, Boston Acoustics, Infinity, JL audio, MTX, and Polk all have 5-channels ranging in price from around $350 up to around $1,000. The Alpine PDX-5 will output 75X4 watts RMS for the front and rear stereo channels and 300 watts to the mono sub channel. It is priced at $599.99 at Crutchfield.

Hope this helps.

Most power out of amp w/out blowing subs

you may only be able to get but so much out of the subs. If you turn the bass down a little so the that you dont drive the subs so hard you may get a little more wattage out of them

I have two volfenhag 1000 watts speakers

If you are looking for some serious sound try using a Rockford Fosgate P3001T Amplifier.. it pushes 3000W Max its a 4 channel amplifier. Or you could go with something small. I have two JL Audio 10s in my car running with a 600W 2 Channel MTX Amp.
