I was on the internet and the computer went down to prevent damage to my computer. the following message came up Stop:0x0000007B. i first put the system back on the computer like it directed me to with no results. it is telling me that I don't have a hard drive on my computer. that is not so. I was working fine. pls help.
My understanding is that the
error occurred when the OS is switching from real mode to protected mode.
The OS is loading the drivers necessary to access the boot drive in
protected mode. Today’s PCs or laptops access the drive controller via PCI bridge
chips. If the correct PCI driver or other disk device drivers are not
in the image, the system will blue-screen. Hence the Stop:0x0000007B error code.
These are some of the following devices that might have failed.
A specific OEM BUS master IDE, SATA controller, Boot Virus and corrupted Registry component might also be the culprit.
Simple fix is to boot your laptop to "Last Known Good Configuration". If it still gives you this option.
If it doesn't you will need Genuine copy of Windows CD and run a recovery program. Using a chkdsk command.
To do this you will need administrative privileges on your Laptop and insert the Windows CD as if you are going to install a new copy, let the program run its test and wait till it gives the option to repair, then press the F2 key to launch the recovery program follow the instructions to access your C:\ drive then type in chkdsk /r. Your system will now search for missing and corrupted system files and registries, after that it will restore those entries. It will take a while so be patient after that it's gonna tell you it is done. Remove the Windows CD in your CD-Rom and restart your laptop.
If it fails again you may need to reinstall your Windows backup your files and begin reinstalling Windows.
How to backup?
Remove your Hard Drive from the faulty laptop and connect via USB cable to a working PC or Laptop.
You can buy Laptop HDD casings for less than $30 on a computer store. It doesn't require you to install drivers for it cause it works like a USB flash Disk.
If you can access your files back it up.
If you can't have your Hard Drive replaced it's broken.
If you are able to backup your files successfully and still unable to reinstall windows. Take your Laptop to a tech and have it serviced one or several components of your laptop might be failing.

What the computer is trying to tell you is that the hard drive has gone faulty somehow... hard Drives can and do spontaneously fail all the time.. It probably shut down because it detected a serious fault with the hard drive. I think that at least you are going to have to try a new hard drive to see...
