DO NOT "POP" THE BACK OFF! You need a tool to unscrew the back. You may be able to find methods on YouTube to find out how to unscrew watch backs without proper tools. I'm not a watch repair professional but I do know that if you strip the threads you're gonna cause yourself more problems than solutions.

SOURCE: opening an elgin pocket watch

The best tool to do it is watchmakers knife, but any proper knife with hardened steel blade can do the job. Make sure the blade is NOT flexible.
Check carefully the sides of your watch and you will notice the groove. Place knife blade into that groove and press it in. At the same time try to make a scooping turn to lift the caseback. Usually there must be underlayed caseback as well and it opens exactly in the same manner.
Make sure you do all this carefully and do not let the blade to slip or your watch will end up with nasty scratches or even damaged movement.
That job isn't a big deal, but requires some skill, so, BE CAREFULL.
Don't forget to rate, please.

You do not need to go all over the world to find replacement for your watch glass. You have plenty of excellent watchmakers in France. I've been there, so, I know. All you have to do is to find your nearest watch repair shop and bring your watch in. Watchmaker will get all the measurements and will replace the glass.

SOURCE: how do you open the back of an antique Elgin pocket watch

You might be able to pop it open with a pocket knife ... don't stab yourself though.

SOURCE: need instruction manuel for elgin fg010-007 sports

The movement in this Elgin is made by Citizen. After you change the battery, you need to reset the hands so that the watch functions properly. Select chronograph function with lower-right button. Then pull-out the same button. Push the upper left button to select the UTC, hour, and minute hands. Then use lower-left and upper-right buttons to make sure everything is aligned to 12:00 position. After setting the hands to 12:00, push in lower right button. Now you can set the time by selecting the SET using the lower right button. Pull out the same button and choose your time zone to set.

Men's Elgin II Quartz Watch FCT002 instructions please. How do I set the date?

Question edited for a lot more clarity.
Question moved from Cameras category.

It should be the same as my Seiko. The pull out Crown has two or three positions.

Pull crown out to 1st position (sometimes 2nd). Turning one way will alter the date and turning the other way will alter the day. Pull the Crown all the way out to adjust the time.

Hello, Chipper -

Currently watches with the Elgin name are manufactured by M. Z. Berger & Co. I found the company web site and found information regarding how to obtain instructions for an Elgin brand watch the company manufactured.

From:
http://www.mzb.com/customer-care

From the company Contact Us web page, this is the phone number to call:

Best wishes.

Fg8055s Elgin

So answering this many years after you posted. But I just found my sane watch in a drawer and decided to tinker with it. The watch is only part automatic. That works the second hand. The hour and minute hand runs on a battery. It's inside and under the auto part. One screw and you work see it. Easy fix.

Setting chimes and time for elgin e77

I thought I had some instructions on that Elgin clock, but it was for a mechanical wind up unit. There were many different models of these programmable clocks manufactured and the instructions differed. And they are just not readily available. I received a sports watch in a trade (with no instructions)and after 3 months I am still trying to determine how to program it!

It might be that the "H" stands for hours and the "S" for set. So how do we set the minutes? I will pose this question to my Internet Clocksmiths Group and see if anyone knows. If I do receive some instructions, I will get back with you.
