Maxtor One Touch II not working

I have had this extermal hard drive for less than a year. I store all of my photos on this hard drive. I have used it with a Mac G4. It has always worked great until now. All of a sudden when I plug it in, it is not showing on my desktop. The light on the hard drive shows. I have tried plugging it into other outlets. I have tried using other computers. I have tried using other firewire cords, and usb cords. Nothing works. I hope someone can help, as I need photos from this hard drive for a funeral THIS WEEK! HELP!

Tried pushing the reset pin, but no luck. The hard drive ticks.

I know it's too late but, did you try resetting the hard drive. Insert a pin through the little hole on the back of the drive.

Maxtor One Touch II - installation Software

I have a disk that worked for me and I am running windows xp. I also have the website address that is supposed to have the 98 drivers which could work perhaps. http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=Maxtor_OneTouch_Drive_USB/Win98SE_Driver&vgnextoid=b07d8b9c4a8ff010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD

Guess you could try them first and if that doesnt work I could perhaps make a backup of the disk/package/mail/ worth anything?

Leave it on or turn it off?

Personally I always leave them on. I seem to have had less problems that way.

You should still back up the really important stuff to something ie DVD etc.

It's not IF a HD will fail its WHEN.

I'm still using a 5YR old Lacie drive...

Maxtor One Touch II - installation Software

Maxtor is now owned by Seagate, and yes, you can go to http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/installation_assistance/installation_instructions/external_drives_&_personal_servers/ot2
Hope that helps, i am trying to get my Maxtor External II working now too, I think it's a power supply, cause it wants to keep installing the driver, but the driver is already there. Hmmm anybody?

Drive won't mount

i had a maxtor one touch go bad and had to open the case and take it out of the external casing and put it into my computer as an internal drive. then it worked fine. it was a single drive.

just today i had a maxtor TB drive go bad, and since i think it has two drives inside it i am very worried that i will not be able to do the same thing.

Old Maxtor/New Maxtor

If files you are trying to restore are encrypted you will have to use same software to retrieve them.. If not, any file in the external hard drive should be viewable with your windows explorer.

And U do not need drivers for external hard drives. They just plug into your usb port and work with modern OS after the unit is recognized.
