Keystroke issue with TI BA II +...

Hi,

Trying to calculate the cubed or nth root of a number and struggling to get the correct order of keystrokes using 1/x.

example:

1.21903 ^ 1/3 should equal 1.06825 but I cant get to that number using the prescribed keystrokes of 1.21903 [ENTER] 3 [1/x] [y^x]. I can do it if I raise it to the power of 0.3333 but that involves an extra step which Im trying to avoid.

Any ideas?

Ok so when you're typing it into your calc. like that don't type it in without parenthesis.

example:

2^3=8
to find the cube root of 8, you type in 8^(1/3)

DONT type 8^1/3 because that means that you raising the 8 by a one and then dividing that answer by 3

Square root of 39: Press 3 9 [square-root] =
[square-root] is the key just to the left of the divide key.

Cube root of 9482: Press 9 4 8 2 2nd [cube-root] =

How do you find nth power of a number without using a calculator?

A power is just repeated multiplication, so without a calculator you can work the answer out longhand. (If you were trying to do the nth ROOT of a number that would be much harder!)

Any number N to the power P, then, is N multiplied by itself P times:

3^3 = 3x3x3
12^8 = 12x12x12x12x12x12x12x12x12x12x12x12

and so on.

Keystrokes for cubed root and keystroke for y to the x power.

To raise y to the x power, enter y, press ^, enter x, and press ENTER. To compute the cube root, simply raise the base to the one-third power.

You can calculate any root by raising to the reciprocal. For example, to calculate the cube root of 125, press 1 2 5 y^x 3 1/x =

To calculate the fourth root of 16, press 1 6 y^x 4 1/x =

The y^x key is just above the 9 key. The 1/x key is just above that.

Is it possible to calculate cube root or higher with BA ii plus?

To extract the roots of orders higher than 2, you can use the universal power key labeled as [Y to x]. if the exponent is an integer 3, 4, 5, 6 etc.
it gives the cube the 4th power, 5th, 6th, etc.
If the exponent is 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6 you calculate the cubic root, the 4th root and so on.
When you use it to calculate the roots, the radicand (the number the root of which you are calculating) must be positive, otherwise you may get the result as a complex number.

The syntax of the command is value [Y to x] (1/ order of root)

Ex: cube root of 27 is entered as 27 [Y to x] (1/3)

Use the ^ then (power/root). So the cubed root of 5 squared is 5^(2/3)=2.92402.

Hello,
If there is no special key reserved for that operation, you can use the raise to an arbitrary power key. This key is represented as [^] ( a caret or accent circonflexe) or [X to the y] or [Y to the x ]. I have just verified : it is primary key accessible directly.
If you want the cube of a number; 2 [^]3 =2x2x2=8.
In your algebra course they must have taught you that the roots of a number (square, cube, fourth, fifth, nth) are equivalents to raising that number to a fractionary power (a power whose exponent is a fraction of the form 1/2 ,1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/n etc.)

27[^] (1/3) = cube root of 23 = 3

Cube roots or higher

If you want to take the nth root, enter the root first then press math 5 and then the number you are trying to take the root of.  For example to take the 4th root of 1000, press 4, math, 5, 1000, enter.
