Over heating valiant 671 dp

The power supply and laptop are both hot because your fan isn't working. You'd know if it was working by the whirring sound it would be making. Send it in for service.

It sounds like the screen inverter is going out. The inverter works in this way: The power supply cuts the amount of power going into the board down, however the screen needs more power to enable it to function properly, so the inverter boosts the power back up to a level that the screen needs. If the inverter starts to go out it can create a multiple amount of indications that are noticable on the screen, one of them is darkening of the screen. It could also be the screen itself, but I'm leaning towards the inverter.

KDS Valiant 671DP

first step: lay the screen fully down, then pry the two speaker covers outward. You may have to move the screen around to get them out.
second step: lift the center section containing the power button upward.
third step: loosen the two small phillips screws that hold the keyboard on.
fourth step: gently lift the keyboard up. There is a ribbon cable that plugs into a socket. There is a liftable tab on either side of the socket. Gently pry them up to release the ribbon cable and thus the keyboard.

fifth step: The hard drive is now visible. It is held in by three screws: one on the left and two on the connector. Once these three screws have been removed you can lift the drive out.

Take the old drive out of the holder and remove the connector. Install connector onto the new drive then secure into the drive holder.

Remainder of assembly is reverse of disassembly.

You may need to pry the ribbon tabs up to ensure that the ribbon cable seats down fully. Once the ribbon cable is down, push down the tabs to lock the keyboard in securely.

hope this helps.
