Question about Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 GB SATA Hard Drive
Hey everyone, just got a new Dynex USB 2.0 3.5" external enclosure and a 500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD and I set them both up, I've never had problems with an external HDD in the past but for some reason when I plus this one in the computer says that it's installing the standard drives and such to run it, then it says your hardware is setup or something like that. I go to "My Computer" and the HDD is no where in sight, and I have no clue how to fix this problem. It should be there right under My Computer right?
Hi, Initially, allow Windows to install automatically drivers or needed configuration, then perhaps you need to reboot. Thereafter check if it can be seen in My Computer, otherwise, pls post back for any messages or errors. Good luck and kind regards.

Hi,
Understand, then will have to treat this problem as a repair problem and not an installation.
Please refer to the steps I have posted in a similar problem >http://www.fixya.com/support/t191153-dev...
Or perhaps since no data has been stored, claim warranty and have the unit replaced.
Good luck and kind regards.
Pls, what OS are you running?
Could be a bad drive, try directly connecting to your motherboard either as IDE or SATA. Your motherboard so autodetect if not then you just have verified, if otherwise detected proceed and partition/format. This essentially would bypass the Dynex USB 2.0 3.5" external enclosure and its interface/cables.
If the 500 GB Seagate Barracuda was detected by the motherboard at BIOS, then Windows should be able to detect it normally. If not accessible to Windows but detected by the motherboard, use a third party disk utility like Partition magic.

Thanks Benimur I tried what you said but sadly nothing has changed, my computer has yet to recognize it. Any other advice?
I did what you suggested I do but sadly it didn't work. Any other advice you can share with me?
Windows Vista Business, I also tried it on my friends computer which has Windows XP so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I don't know what you just said...but it's a laptop and I have no clue how I would hook it to my motherboard and if it won't just plug and play then the drive is bad and I'm sending it back at this point, thanks anyways.
