I purchased a Microsoft mouse (wireless 3000 for notebooks) to use with my new HP laptop running Vista. When I hook up the mouse it won't scroll but I can left and right click on the desktop, so the buttons work. I have tried new batteries and I have tried using the connect buttons on both the USB stick and the mouse. I even called Microsoft but they wanted to charge me for tech support even though I had just purchased their product the day before from Target. Any help would be fabulous!I purchased a Microsoft mouse (wireless 3000 for notebooks) to use with my new HP laptop running Vista. Go into control panel>mouse>click on the wheel tab. There should be a number, for the number of lines you want to scroll with each turn, in the vertical and horizonal scrolling.

Check the battery in the mouse, go into device manager and locate the wireless mouse under human interface devices, Delete the device remove the usb sensor for the mouse, shut down the computer, power it back on, put the sensor back in and see if windows finds it reloads the drivers. Then check the operation.
Your wireless mouse the battery might be low, change the battery and go to control panel and click the mouse icon, and adjust the right mouse speed setting.

Try disconnecting the Mouse Receiver from the
USB port and reinstall the CD software program. When
the program asks you to connect the MouseReceiver to the USB
port, do so and it should work.
Hope this helps. Bud
I fixed an MS wireless mouse that was not responding by pressing the button on the receiver while it was connected to a USB port & then pressing the button on the mouse. Worked fine after that.

A friend of mine brought me this problem with exactly the same problem. here is what I found. The small notch in usb device socket under the mouse was malfunctioning. If you press this notch you will find the mouse red light blink. If you further try pressing this notch at some point the mouse red light comes on constantly. Thats it, hold it there and try to connect first by pressing the usb device connect switch and then the mouse connect switch. The moment the connection is made the usb device stops blinking and the red light on the mouse starts blinking. Wow, it works now. Some one might just open the mouse and fix this microswtich for a permanent solution.
