well i tried to do the reboot after haveing the vga external moniter in, but to no avail. would a totally bad cmos battery be the culprit?

i got the exact same problem, please help

Did you check the "Fn + key" to make sure you have selected the external monitor and then rebooted the computer? In order for the laptop to recognize the new monitor it has to be installed and configured. Usually a reboot with it connected will do the trick. You may also have to play with the Fn keys to select the alternative video source. Hope this helps!

Bobcat915,

I have encountered this situation before myself and it was due to the frequency range and resolution that the external VGA monitor can handle. First, try dumping down your screen resolution to an 800x600 on the laptop itself. Save the setting and reboot to make sure it stays. Next connect the external monitor and reboot the system with it plugged in (power and data). See if the monitor will display anything. Note: You may also have to look at the frequency setting of your video card in the laptop in order to match it with your external monitor.

I can't imagine that a bad CMOS battery would be the issue. Does the screen on your laptop work without the external monitor plugged in?

Acer Aspire 9300. Symptoms:Powering up, the HDD light flashes twice but that's all. Have tried replacing Mobo. No change. Have replaced CPU. No change. Have tried removing both HDD and the two RAM cards....

Hello,
Did you change the HDD ?

Did you change the MOBO?

Please try to change the battery or charge the battery again or can check by your nearest technician.
If there is any courser blinking any on the screen think your LCD is ok.
The HDD is defected.

If there is no courser ,The hdd is spinning thing LCD could be damaged,

Hope this helps.

My Acer Aspire 9300 isn't starting any more, all I see is a black screen and the 2 lights in front and te power button are on. You hear the dvd-writer spinning but the screen stays black. I allready tested...

You can try to connect it to an external monitor using the vga connector on the side of the laptop.

greed03_3.png If that works, try and hold down the function button and press the F8 key. That should switch between the two screens. If the Laptop screen still does not come on, It is probably bad.

Hope this helps!

Acer aspire 9300 black screen (display adapter)

I have been fixing computers that has long beeps and short ones. It is usually attributed to memory problem connection. Open the memory compartment at the back of the PC then detach the memory card. Clean with cloth softly enough not to destroy the circuit board or a pencil eraser to clean-up dust that caused the connection blockade. Reconnect after cleaning.

ACER cracked screen..external monitor???

Hi there.
The keyboard toggle you are using is the correct one.
Sometimes you have to hit Fn + F5 a couple of times to stay on there is no real set time. Make sure Fn + F6 is on so the laptop screen stays on.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
