Question about Hotpoint  21.8 Cu. Ft. Top-Freezer Refrigerator
A while back I had that my fridge and freezer weren't cooling. I unplugged it and had it open for over 24 hrs then replugged it and it started working.
Around 2-3 weeks ago I noticed some ice buildup in the freezer (on the bottom back wall) The freezer was working sortof (some items refused to freeze)
I just unplugged it again - had it unplugged for over 24 hrs. Now the freezer isn't blowing cold air - the items inside did freeze. and there's a bad smell coming out of the fridge. Also, I had to turn the fridge number up (I believe it's either 6 or 7 - normal is 5.)
Please help. I want to know if I should call a repair guy. how much whatever needs to be repaired cost, or do I need to buy a new machine.
Your automatic defroster coil is open and needs to be replaced along with the fan in the freezer that blows the cold air around and also blows air into refrigerator.
Bad smell down below is food rotting in that section because it is not cold enough.

if i read the english right, the compressor runs but the freezer fan only runs for a short time. no fan then no cooling. there is a fan stat so that the fan only runs when the evap is down to temp. this may be faulty. also on some hotpoint, the fan switches off when door opened. check door switch operating ok. this may also explain problem with fridge lamp

Thanks to this site and previous writers - my fridge freezer is working fine now.
My freezer was working normally but the fridge did not at all.I opened the back of the freezer section to reveal the filament all iced up as previously recommended ( many thanks) -rememeber there are 2 white covers to remove. PlEASE DO NOT chip away the ice as you will accidently chip the metal and break the filament . I did that once with another freezer and gas came out and therefore broke it- be patient and safer and use a hair dryer.
I am month 8 of 12 month warranty- should i contact hotpoint and complain what seems like a design fault? i would recommend feedback.

your defrost heater or timer is not working . rotate you defrost timer until it clicks and check if its is defrosting if it is let it defrost for about 10 mins and turn the timer some more to take it out of defrost. replace timer

Either the repair guy did not wire up the heater correctly or he replaced the wrong part, if the heater was good it was likley to be the defrost thermostat...I would call the repair guy back to check.
