Hi andresen_3,

In order to reset the camera settings to its default values you need to do the following:

1. Press the MENU button
2. Use the left or right arrow keys to select the Settings menu (its icon looks like a wrench and hammer)
3. Use the up or down arrow keys to scroll to the choice that says "Reset ALL..."
4. Press the "Func./Set" button to confirm your choice.
This will reset the camera to its factory default settings

Hope it helps.

I want to rest to factory settings

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. Most Canon powershot from A series up to the professional G series models have the same menu steps in factory resiting. Just follow the steps below:

1. Press the "Menu" button.
2. Press the right arrow once to highlight the "Setup" menu.
3. Press the down arrow five times to select "Reset All".
4. press the "Set" button.
5. Press the right arrow button once to select "OK"
6. Press "Set"

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for using Fixya,

I have been VERY happy with my Canon Power Shot Sd 1200 IS, but my photos all of a sudden are now very grainy and really disappointing, and not worth keeping at all. The camera is only 12 months...

Since you did reset the camera to the factory defaults I have only one suggestion - it is possible someone touched the lens with oily fingers.

In case if the reset to factory defaults did not work completely look at the following settings: resolution (set it as big as you can), compression, ISO (set it to lower value like 100). Also see if you are using any postprocessing effects.

Lately it has been taking very dark pictures, even though the flash goes off, the pictures are still dark.

Did you change the exposure compensation setting or the ISO setting? You could go into the menu and find "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions to return to factory default settings.

Erase All button is grayed out on my Canon Powershot SD550

Okay. You can try resetting the unit to factory default. But I just want to warn you that this will delete all settings on your camera.

To RESET it to factory defaults, all you have to do is go to the Tools menu. This is the hammer and wrench tool I guess. And then hit Reset All.
