Line across picture tube

Have a small horizontal line across picture tube sound appears to be working  I am having the same issue. Sometimes it works fine, but other times it is just the line. I would classify myself an intermediately technically minded person.

Is it easy to identify the vertical hold chip? What should I be looking for when I open the TV up??

Thanks

It's a bad solder connection on the vertical IC.It will be mounted on the main board. It is vertical in length and will have thirteen pins..should be marked "LA7838" or similar.

I have sound but have a black screen with a horizontal line across it

your picture tube may be malfunctioning -- all of the information for the screen is being squished into that horizontal line. If this is the case, you can buy a new picture tube and install it, but that would be the only fix. the only other thing I can think of that might cause this issue would be if you have a large speaker next to your TX. The magnet from a large speaker can distort the television, but it usually gives you a funny green distortion near the magnet without killing your whole screen so it seems unlikely that this is your problem.

Sharp tube tv 1998. Comes on momentarily, then picture fragments starting at top and bottom at same time. Final indication is a thin bright horizontal line across mid tube, then internal circuit breaker...

The most likely cause of the issues is bad electrolytic capacitors.
Not worth fixing IMO.
Tracking down and replacing the caps would be many hours work...

Flatline!

the vertical drive ic that drives the yoke for vertical sweep has blown.
sometimes it is solder problems like sharp and toshiba had.
the part is 10$ the pc board will label it ,the yoke is the coil setup on the picture tube.if you follow the wiring half goes to the horizontal drive, and the others to the vertical section.the chip drives the coil directly.there are VERY high voltages in there ,even turned off. the pix tube cap on top is 30000v. like a stun gun.the horizontal drive 2000 volts and the main power supply 165 volts dc high current.you need a special setup to discharge the picture tube.

Turned on, and picture went out(just a line)with sound. never had problem with picture, but remote stop working about a year ago, cable tech said its tv not the remote

If it's a horizontal line across the face of the picture tube, your TV has a problem with its vertical output. Most likely, it's bad solder connections to the vertical output IC. Because this part gets very hot during normal operation, the connections to the circuit board can crack and the part quits working. All you see then is that narrow line across the tube. A few minutes with a soldering iron to repair the connections is usually all that's needed to fix the TV. It's also possible the part has truly failed, but the bad connections a much more common. A service shop could do the repair if you don't know anyone with the soldering skills.

Line across picture tube

Had the same problem with mine. The vertical hold chip broke loose from the solder,Resoldered it works fine. You will need a magnifying glass to see this on the bottom of the board.

Insignia 32" Tube TV NS-RTV32

The vertical output IC LA7847 is failing. It will likely fail permanately and you will have just the horizontal line. The set will require service. Just do not run the set very long in this state. That thin white line can likely burn into the crt phospher and will show all the time thus ruining the glass picture tube...

POP and noothiing

yes it can still be fixed! the pop sound you've heard maybe came from a blown capacitor in the vertical deflection circuits. this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

Horizontal 'pinstripe' lines on all channels

sound like the screen control on the flyback is set just a little too high. the flyback has the red wire attached to the tube. the flyback has 2 small adjustable controls. if you look close enough 1 is marked focus & on is screen. turn the screen slightly to the left & look at your picture. the screen is like a master brightness & if it's up too high you will see what is called retrace lines. good luck.
