This sounds like the CCD sensor is faulty ( this is the device that generates picture in both v-cams and normal digital cameras and sits behind the lens ). Playback is fine but no image ( or very 'noisy' image ) in capture mode. Easy to repair but one has to put a new CCD block in.

Hey guys, I bought this a while ago but it has been in and out of the repairs since i first got it out of the box. I was sick for a few years so it just sat in the box. But now I would like to use it, but...

Hi
Does not sound encouraging....was the screen always 'black'?
Was that the original fault or something different?
Usually, if the screen blacks out and there is absolutely no picture even attempting to surface it may be the flat micro film connector between the screen and the camera.
Have you tried recording a new tape and then playing it on someone elses camera?
Have you capability to transfer a newly recorded tape from the Sony to your PC?
All this will do is help eliminate the problems e.g. if the tape plays normally on your PC or a friends camera then it is definitely the screen. If not, then could be a myriad of things wrong.

Sony 8mm camcorder will record sound but no video

Since it is playing the tape, the play head is ok. Now recording is done by recording heads so you may have a clogged heads or damaged recording heads. Try to clean the heads with head cleaning tape to see if it would help. 1. remove the tape and leave the door open. 2. using a canned air, blow out any dusts in the tape area. 3. run head cleaning tape for about 10 seconds and no more. 4. try the recording.. If this does not resolve, you may have a damaged or heavy clogged video heads. Take it to nearest video technician for a diagnostic. -James

Vidio recorder when i record it wont play back what is recorded but it will play pre recorded tapes Is it campatable for LG television please model no VR550/07

If it plays back pre recorded tapes then there is nothing wrong with that section of the unit. Does it playback audio and not picture or does it not playback anything.
Also, when trying to playback a recording what is seen of the screen? Snow(black and white dots or wiggly picture?

The unit uses two separate circuits to record and playback tapes. Is any thing else connected to the unit while you are recording? If you are using anything plugged into other ports on the recorder it may not see the camera input causing it to not record anything..

Black and white playback with sony handycam dcr-hc20

There is no problem on your camera, DCR-HC19E is PAL system(European system) DCR-HC20 is NTSC(American system). Are you in US or Europe? I think your TV is NTSC, cause the tape recorded on DCR-HC19E you played has no color. To confirm, connect your HC20 to TV in camera mode, not recording yet, just look at the TV as your monitor, If its in color, no problem, just erase the old video recorded on the HC19E, but if its important to you, you can convert it to NTSC using a PC. thanks
