ATI Driver Update

I,m no expert by the way. Each time I start my Acer 5100 A dialogue box opens 'Loading new driver' The driver relates to my pre-installed ATI Radeon ExpressDisplay adaptor. It runs for a while and then asks me if I want to continue. If I do it runs awhile then stops and asks me to contact the manufacturer. etc Also something I think associated with it prevents me from running System Restore and also has prevented my computer from starting up, invoking the start up recovery program. Any my device manager informs me that the device is working perfectly well. My questions are: do I need this new driver in the first place? If so how can I run/load/update it? In the short term how can I stop it from running at each start up of my laptop? Is this a common fault with Acer 5100s and if so is there a patch available to sort it out Help!!!

You can probably reload the video driver from the recovery partition using the Acer recovery steps. Your manual should give very specific instructions. Or you might be able to get a driver from the Acer web site itself. That might be the one that is causing you problems, though. Mary

Firstly try going to Start-Run-Type msconfig- move to startup tab and untick anything ATI related. Then apply and restart when it loads there will be a box to tick and tell it not to pop up again. Then go to the Acer UK or US website and download the original driver for your Video device and install it to be sure that your graphics are installed properly

I have a problem with my sound driver.

First, go into the "properties" of the driver -
Once the dialogue box opens, the lower part (in the top left corner) it will either say, " This is working properly". Or will give a message of wether the driver is out of date, not installed, or there is an error. If it says "this is working properly", than there may be a problem with the external speakers if equipped. If you are using external speakers with USB port plug n' play - unplug the units, uninstall any drivers that were automatically uploaded, and simply plug the speaker back in. If this does not make a difference, try "rolling back" the driver in the dialogue box when viewing the driver "properties".
In any case of an error, or message of "not installed" it is best to first locate the driver for which I can be downloaded, and installed.
Next, once you have retreived it (on disc, etc) and are able to install/download the driver (update usually can do this if the option is available in the dialogue box), un-intall the driver - then proceed to install the new driver.
Please let me know if you need furthera assistance.

ACER ASPIRE 5100-ATI VIDEO CARD problems/ ALSO CRASHES

Make a folder on the c drive in the root directory called "driver". Move the files you downloaded into that directory. You can install now because the directory path will only be C:\driver\installXXX

Your other problem is a loose or defective hd. If loose try the screws, if defective replace.

My Acer Aspire 5100 tells me that my USB port are

Check the driver status of the USB. You can do this by accessing the Device Manager. For users using Windows XP, just click the Start icon. On the Run box, type devmgmt.msc. You can also do the same with Vista.

Next thing, check for devices with an (!) sign with a yellow background. These devices needs driver update or correct driver should be installed.

For a start, you can do a Windows Update. Click Start, All Programs, and then Windows Update. This will download patches for your system.

Acer aspire 5100 laptop has ati graphics driver problem-black scn

Alright. Re-install the ATI drivers but when it asks, select Custome setup.

When it shows the components to be installed, select the Drivers only, Do not install the Catalyst program.

This turned out to be my situation a few years back.

Give it a try and let me know and we can go from there.

Good luck

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 5100 I am supposed to be producing 3.6 Mhz but when i try to play games that require about 1.5 i have a hard time playing it. It is very slow and it becomes nearly impossible

This could be due to a number of things. To start, the number of programs running when you try to run a game would be the first thing I look at. When windows starts, select START-RUN -in the text box type MSCONFIG. When it opens, select the startup tab at the top and you will see a list of programs, all of which have lil boxes next to them. the ones with checks in the boxes are programs that open when windows opens. all of these eat system resources and you can uncheck the boxes for all but things related to your keyboard, video, mouse and virus program. Now reboot the system, you will get a message stating you used the system configuration utility to change the way windows starts, just hit ok.

this should free up a lot of system for you.
you should also check for video card updates at both acers site and ATI. I believe that one comes with an x1200 ATI chip, but with the unified drivers available , one of the newer drivers might work better for gaming.
the aspire 5100 is a very dependable middles of the road computer, but you will find as you start gaming a lot , you will expect more from your computer.
It is capable of having a video upgrade as well as using 4 gig od 400mhz memory. I'me almost posative it's not shipped with that much.

Just a few things to check and consider...

Acer Aspire 5100

Acer 51000 does not have solution other than new mainboard. They have design flow and ATI chip get burned and nothing you can do. Even changing BGA chip does not help all the time, than you have other weird problems like DVDRW/HDD not being recognized. Right solution is to sell it for parts and get some other laptop

Hi,

Offhand I would suspect video and/or its drivers. Pls try starting in "Safe Mode" and determine if problem persists. If no, then you may need to reload/update your video drivers, if yes, then you have a problem with the video card (hardware). I believe an Acer Aspire 5100 uses ATI Radeon® Xpress 1100 chipset. Am no just sure if it is an add-on card or integrated into the motherboard. Perhaps what you can do is to open the panels underneath the laptop and verify if the different cards including the memory are seated correctly.

Additionally, a post by Mark_Webber, another FixYa expert, addressed a slightly similar concern with another Acer Aspire 5100 here. It might be of additional information. This page might be interesting if not likewise informative.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My Acer aspire 5100

If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run. When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode. Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots. Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
