On many overheating problems we tell our customers to shut off the laptop, place a fairly strong vacuum cleaner flush against the bottom grill and hold it there for about 30 seconds. This sucks out a strip of dust that gathers on the cooling grid over time.

If your comfortable with disassembling the machine then i suggest you Clean the CPU, HSF and apply some clean Silicone. Also there are fan controllers available for download which will force the fans to full speed. Failing all of that you can buy Antec or similar Notebook coller fan which sits underneath it with a large quiet fan to keep it cool.

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

How to stop over heating laptops or computers.

1. Fix Internal Cooling. The first and most important thing you need to do when your laptop is overheatingis to clean the fan(s) that provide(s) cooling to the CPU and graphics card. Over time, they build up layers of dust and dirt that slow them down and block airflow.
A laptop that severely overheats causes damage to the internal components. Before this happens, the laptop should attempt to shut itself down. ... If you smell smoke, a burning odor, the fans never run or the fan runs all the time, be careful to avoid ruining your laptop.
The most common cause of laptop overheating is a non-working fan. ... Viruses, spyware, adware and other types of malware put a heavy strain on the CPU and other components of your laptop. This causes those components to heat up, often to a point where the fan simply cannot move enough air over them to cool them down.
Determine Whether Your Computer Is Overheating or Just Hot. Laptops get hot. It's what they do. However, if your laptop is shutting down, suffering from the blue screen of *****, or experiencing serious slowdowns, then you have a much bigger problem on your hands.
A laptop that severely overheats causes damage to the internal components. Before this happens, the laptop should attempt to shut itself down. ... If you smell smoke, a burning odor, the fans never run or the fan runs all the time, be careful to avoid ruining your laptop.
Heat is a computer's enemy. Computers are designed with heat dispersion and ventilation in mind so they don't overheat. If too much heat builds up, your computermay become unstable, suddenly shut down, or even suffer component damage.
