Originally I was having a problem w/ my black cartridge, I don't think it wasseated properly and very soon I noticed that my picture were coming out bluish colored. Then I found that there seemed to be black ink everywhere even if I picked it up I got black ink on me and everything else. I bought all new cartridges for it hoping this would solve the problem, only to then find that the yellow cartridge I bought had a yellow label but it had black ink in it! Now I've got more black ink how can I clean it all out of the printer?
You have to get a new inktray. It seems to me that there is a hole in the foil (i. e. bottom of inktray!!!). You cant fix it by yourself because the foil is fastened by glue.
Do NOT insert any BK cart anymore! The inktray already swims in ink which is collected at the bottom of the printer.
If you like to open the printer follow the link and let it translate by help of google:

Wear handgloves before you take the inktray out of position and have some papertowels at hand!

You said you replaced the cartridges. Were they Genuine Brothers' Cartridges?
My Brother MFC-240C, does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also I had with Brother's was problem with Color. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, or Blue Green, etc.The Generic Cartridges, also printed lines thru the words. That's what the Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY, or Take them to have them filled.
So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for the PRINTERS.
This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.
I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".
This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.
The print head is clogged.Try powerful cleaning: Press menu, then start black copy, then four times arrow-up quickly after another.Machine will be in maintenance mode (all lights will flash). Press 7-6-4 and OK (or start-black-copy). When finished press 7-6-3 then start black copy, printer will do a power purge. Leave maintenance mode by pressing 9-9. If this not help better think about new printer, because cost of repairing this one is profitable.
I'd venture to say that if you haven't used it in a while the ink dried up and clogged the print head. It is probably a job for a service center. Good luck
The cartrages can be purchased from just about anywhere... I looked them up at www.tigerdirect.com and they go for about $25 for the black one and $13 for each color. You should be able to just buy the ones you need. Here are the part numbers for the cartridges:
On the clear side of the cartridge, put a piece of electrical tape to
cover the center plastic bar that sticks out. For some reason these
printers have a big problem with sensing ink levels. The tape lets the
sensor think the cartridge float inside is up, meaning a full
cartridge. The sensors seem to have difficulty reading where the black
float is inside the cartridge.
the brother printer is not a good brand i also have a brother mfc 3220cn and it gives the same problem, what you have to is unplug the machine and let it stand for about 2 days take out the cartridges and clean the printing with air replace back them and plug in.that should remedy your problem.i urge on you never to buy brother printers.if you buy them get a bottle of phensic along with it.good luck my brother.
