Hard disk problem

The disk in drive is not formatted. Do you want to format now? If I right click the disk and check properties it says file system: RAW with 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free space.

I bought a samsng g2 external hard drive and now i it keeps showing THE DISK DRIVE IS NOT FORMATTED,DO U WANT TO FORMAT IT?i always format it when i will use it..so i quick format and the comp. hangs..what...

You just bought the HD? Have you put anything on it yet? If not, letting the computer format the drive should not hurt the drive. It will format it so that it can be use for data storage and the like. Formatting will format it so it can be wrote to, but also will erase anything that is on the hard drive. Hope this helps.

My Book 1Tb will not let me copy movies on to it.

To transfer files larger than 4GB to the drive, the harddrive must have an NTFS File system. Unfortunately, the FAT32 File system is not capable of handling a single file larger than 4GB (to be exact, one byte less than 4GB). Follow the steps below to format the harddrive with an NTFS File system:
Warning, all data on the harddrive will be lost! Please backup the data on the harddrive before proceeding.
  1. Locate My Computer (Computer in Vista). Right-click on the harddrive and select Format.
  2. Select NTFS from the File system drop-down list.
  3. Select Quick Format as the Format option and click Start.
  4. Note: If NTFS is not an available option, close the Format window and follow steps 4-9.
  5. Right-click My Computer (Computer in Vista) and select Properties.
  6. Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
  7. Expand Disk drives and right-click on the harddrive. Select Properties.
  8. Click on the Policies tab and select "Optimize for performance.”
  9. Click OK.
  10. Repeat steps 1-3.
