I have an RCA television which suddenly produced no sound. Actually I only have sound coming through one channel and static through the others. I get sound when playing video games. One channel warned that the television was set to SAP and offered advice how to change it, to no avail. All the channels are currently set to SAP and I cannot turn it off, even by following the instructions. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No sound and a digital picture. i will assume you have no signal on analog rf cable. Thomson(RCA) have been having problem with these sets. The trouble stems from the digital cuircit board. We see alot of these. You used to get the digital board.. they are not availble.. so rca found the component on these that fail.. A VERY SMALL surface mounted fuse. With a lighted magnifer and some fine tip twezzers. we replace these fuses on these boards. Do you have any soldering experence..
Sometims several capacitors start going bad giving you the audio problem, but I don't remember the set turning itself off. That could be a secondary problem around the flyback transformer which may have a bad solder connection. I would check that first. Otherwise, I would be tempted to go with HDTV.
