Problems in A85

Recently, I found some problems in my Canon A85, 1. there are running lines with changing color on LCD display especially when viewing "dark" object. 2. the images taken are sometimes good, sometimes bad, e.g. a) purple sepia image or b) many horizontal lines distort the image. Anything I could do, please advise.

This is a CCD sensor fault and you should find out from Canon if they will repair free of charge which they do on many models which have faulty sensor installed in the factory.

Pictures turning out dark, LCD not adjusting

CCD sensor problems usually present themselves as either a blank image, purple cast, or lines through the image. Incorrect exposures are usually a result of the lens shutter failing to open and close correctly. Typically, the lens is not servicable and they need to be replaced.

Problems in A85

It appears the CCD image sensor is going bad. Both these cameras are specified in Canon's technical notice regarding this issue. If Canon determines that this is the problem (and almost certainly it is), they will repair your cameras at no cost, regardless of warranty status. If you're not in the US, contact your regional Canon service facility.

Canon Powershot broken shutter/photo taking mechanism?

I hope you didn't chuck your camera, because this sounds like a problem with the CCD image sensor. I had the same problem with my Canon A85 and found out that Canon would cover the shipping and repair of the image sensor for FREE.

Please refer to this page, and then contact Canon (I reccomend calling; they're friendly, and the wait is not too incredibly long) to describe your problem. Make sure to mention that you believe the CCD image sensor is faulty, and you found the service notice they issued about the problem:

Blank LCD works but wont display

I have a Canon powershot A85 camera, and it works fine, but I get no picture in the LCD screen. It does take pictures and I can look at the pictures after I have taken them. I don't know if you live in Australia, if you do ring Canon on 131383. A lot of Canon camera's and also a lot of other digital camera's all have a problem with the CCD Chip. My brother has a Canon A75, he has had is for many years, and they fixed it free of charge, because it is a problem the camera has, so not something we done. Look on the internet and you will find a lot of info on it, also that it will be fixed free of charge. I also found the same information on a lot of other digital camera's, so ring Canon and find out, I hope this helps you. Kind Regards Marion
