Transmission not shifting when in drive dropped pan cleaned magnet and gaskets, filter put in new fluid and still not shifting when in drive not sure as to what else could be making it act this way......

Odds are that the transmission is in the Defualt mode which mean you will have Park, Reverse, Nuetral, and what seems like first gear but is actually 2nd gear. Usually when this happens it is because of a mechanical internal failure or an electronic control issue such as a sensor, shift solenoid, etc. The only way to really know is to have someone hook up the the TCM [transmission control module] and check for service codes and possibly road test it to see what kind of data it is recieving from the transmision. I would advise against driving it any more than you have to and getting it checked out as soon as possible.

1996 Dodge Ram Pickup Automatic requires shifting in order to run

It sounds like when you had the trans service don't he didn't do something right. He might have put the wrong fluid in. Does the trans make noise? Sounds like the trans is going in your truck.
