HP 22 color ink cartridge was put in cradle for HP 21 black ink

Please verify your printer model. Also normally there is part number.

I was not able to find 1540 model. Is it unique n your country?
I find the following ink cartridges for D1520 and D1550

HP 21 Black Inkjet Print Cartridge (C9351AN)
HP 22 Tri-color Original Ink Cartridge (C9352AN)

This is all HP recommends for the HP Deskjet 2460, so I wouldn't suggest buying anything else. First of all it might not fit and second, even if it fits, other issues may come with using those. If you can't see the list here it is:

Are you using Dell Series 21,22 ink cartridges?

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 21, 22 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 21. 22 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to get a Dell Series 21, 22 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would take these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.

HP 27 cartridge is not compatable for this printer. Supported cartridges are :

Back : HP 56
Color : HP 57 , HP 28

Photo cart : HP 58

First, the cartridges. This printer uses a 21 for Black and a 22 Tri-Color. The 58 is a Photo cartridge that replaces the 22, not the 21. Make sure that the cartridges are properly placed in the printer. The next step is the easier one. Might sound like some work, but it is the best way to correct conflicts with HP branded printers. First, uninstall the printer from the PC completely. Use the uninstall function. When that is done, re-install the printer onto the PC and test it. This should solve your problems, as long as there is not physical issues with the printer itself.

your HP Cartridges are not compatible with that kind of HP Printer, buy 56 black and 57 color. It might work...

you must change your printer settings to the default settings.
