No remote tv was given to me hooked up all I got was a black

Hey there, Cheri Torres with DISH Network Internet Response Team here. I came across your post and wanted to see if I could help. The channel that you would need to put your TV on would depend on the type of cable you have plugged into your TV and receiver. If the cable you have plugged into the receiver and TV is a coax cable (black cable with silver end) the channel would need to be on 3 or 4. If the cable is a RCA cable (black with red, white and yellow tips) the channel would need to be on an input such as Video 1, input 1, input 2, aux etc. The other cable that it could possible be hooked up with is a HDMI cable (black with a thin flat end) the TV would need to be on a HDMI input. You can find the inputs by pressing the input, TV/video, source or AUX button on the DISH remote or TV remote. Try the code 002 for an RCA DVD player for the BP59-00016 remote. This is the only code given for RCA DVD players for several Samsung TV universal remotes (BP59-0007 and the BP59-00016A). You may need to check the age of the remote. The codes in a universal remote generally only control those devices released 6 months or more before the remote was programmed. If your RCA DVD player is newer than your remote, you may need a new remote.

There is a manual for the Direct TV remote and a code sheet. They should have given to you when they hooked it up. If not, look on their website. Find the code for Samsung tv and enter it.

Please few things...
1- Make sure audio and video wires are hooked correctly in AV input of tv and you selected that AV input in tv with its remote.
2- Also check your dvd has not been set on progressive mode if you hook dvd player through yellow-red-white wires with tv.
3- if dvd player is set on progressive mode, then hook it with tv by component video input, red-green-blue for video and red-white for audio.

Usually the Color Red and White is for the audio channels and yellow is for the video but in your case you find black instead of yellow.

So you do the connection as per the instruction given below.

TV DVD Player
Red--------------Red
White------------White
Black-------------Yellow

im guessing that you cant go to av mode because you dont have a remote, am I right? if thats the case you need to go to walmart and buy an RF converter. You can plug you dvd into the converter, then run a coax cable from the converter to your tv coax inout aka anteanna input, then depending on your converter switch your tv to either channel 3 or 4 and presto. it will hook up just like vcr's and onld nintendos use to. You can pick up an RF converter cheap at walmart or check e-bay, couple bucks and your watching dvds.

well this is weird try to do an auto program on what ever video you are using air / video okay se if this helps good luck

when you got the remote it would have given you lots off numbers. for your philips tv you have got to alternate. by pressing until the tv gose off your tv will come back on
