First make sure the hard drive is reconogized in the BIO's, then do a clean install of XP choosing to delete the existing partition and install into the undefined space. choose to format the drive NTFS. if it still fails after this, sounds like you will need to replace the hard drive. Also the CPU speed will need to be at least 700 mhz for XP to work correctly but a higher mhz is all ways better. BPCS
Take the 4 or 5 screws out of the back, then grab the top of the front of the case (the bit that ridges up) then pull that while PUSHING against the CD drive.
The front and the casing comes FORWARD.
These are the most awkard cases I have seen but once you get the gist of it it's easy.
