My dryer takes much longer to dry loads now

Remove the timer nob see if it is cracked, replace it with another nob or use pliers to turn the timer see if that works

You may have a clogged air vent, check that the air vent hose is not smashed, if it is not smashed, have your dryer vent cleaned professionally, all the way from where the dryer connects to the wall to where the vent leaves the home,

If the heating element goes, Worst case scenario is a short and/or fire. More than likely it will just stop heating. Why run the risk?

Have you checked your vent for blockage? Over time, lint build-up in the vent and in the back of the dryer makes your drying time longer and longer. Unplug the dryer, pull it out and disconnect the vent. Using a flashlight and a vacuum, clean out the back of the dryer that connects to the vent and the vent itself. If you have a long vent line, you'll need to find a away to clean it out to clear any blockage. I use a hand-held plumbers snake that rolls up and pulls out as much length as needed. Then spin it around in the vent to knock off lint attached inside the vent tube walls. It may be easier to do this from the outside, but you can do it from the inside too. Check your outside vent cap for blockage and make sure the vent flap outside is not stuck closed. Also make sure when you push the dryer back into place, that you don't squish the vent tube, if it is made of plastic or foil. After reconnecting the vent, turn on the dryer. The air flow may blow out the lint you have dislodged with the snake. Clean out as necessary at the outside vent. I have a long vent line on my dryer, so I have do this annually. This has helped shorten my dry time every time I do it. Of course, cleaning out the filter regularly, does help too. The more often you clean the filter, the less lint that will build up in the vent . Hope this helps. Douglas

My mother has one of these machines. Less than a year old. I think that is just the nature of these dryers. The vent goes right through the wall and is a 2 foot run. I know their are no restrictions of any sort and the lint filter cleaned after every load. I have found that if I put it on More dry it does fairly well.

it could be your heating element but if you use dryer sheets take your lint trap out and see how well water will run thru it it may need to be washed in hot soapy water hope this helps

1. unplug your machine and rach as far in the exhaust part of the dryer to see if there is an obstrucxtion. 
2.Take out the lint filter and make sure there are no gaping holes in the screen
3. Check the exhaust house leaving the machine or blockage, this hose should not run more than ten feet for optimal drying time.
4. its your heating element

lets hit the eazy button first.dry a load with out the venting[wont hurt a thing]if ok its the house venting,if not dryer .GE is only brand that has two elements.so if not ge and heating element ok and its blockage in the dryer.hope that helps God bless ,tom
