If you have one front panel and one back panel mic input port, Front panel is active by default on most systems. Try front first. if that is ok..or even if not, click on sound icon near clock (double click) select input/recording. unmute the mic or check it as input. thanks

you have an internal recording device. It consists of a built-in webcam and microphone. to make a recording, use the cyberlink webcam program that's pre-installed on your laptop. you'll find it listed somewhere in the start / all programs list in windows 7. also, for sound recording only, the windows 7 audio recorder is located under start / all programs / accessories / sound recorder. select it and click the red record button. also, windows 7 has a feature or program called problem steps recorder. it records activity on your screen including mouse movement. i don't know if it records sound. to access it type psr in the search window and select psr in the search results, then click on start record.
Please follow the below steps to set up your microphone properly :-
Firstly check if your microphone's cable is in proper order, if it has been damaged, then it's that physical fault which stops microphone from working.
Now if the wire or cable of microphone is OK, check if you have connected your microphone in the correct slot , in your motherboard , usually there is a sign of mic besides the microphone slot.
Then check for the control panel's sound and audio devices option , by going in your control panel, if you open it and go in the audio tab you should see your recording device as enabled. If it's disabled then you need to install your audio driver's again.
Now , if everything is ok till here , all you need to do is do a microphone check by going to sound recorder (start >programs>accessories >entertainment>sound recorder )in windows xp , in case you are using windows xp or any relevant software in the other operating system which records audio.
Once you have the application like sound recorder try speaking on mic while you activate the record option , if you see that your sound is being recorded, then your mic is functioning properly, if it's not then you need to check if your mic is the current recording device.
To check if your mic is the current recording device , all you need to do it double click on the volume icon on your task bar and you will have volume control box open , then you need to go to the options menu and choose properties.
After you choose properties you will have a radio button for recording , select it and you will find devices for recording , then make sure microphone is selected and click ok.
After you select ok , then you need to select microphone from the recording options to activate recording via your microphone.
Now you should be able to use your microphone properly without any problems. Your feedback would be appreciated. Hope this helps ..)
Sounds like a software issue, possibly with webam central. There's a free player that has good codecs, and it may help you. Here it is: http://www.finalmediaplayer.com/
This will be an easy fix if it works.
Uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers. That should fix it. Also check in Audio/Sound properties in Control panel under Recording and check if the Array mic is detected and set as default. Try downloading "http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R171786.exe"
If you install the correct drivers, the audio device should work fine. That includes the microphone if present. Check your sound recording settings in Vista to make sure all the device selections, recording levels etc. are set okay. Then try recording with the Vista sound recorder to verify.
You need to set the internal mic as the default input device. To check this Right click on the sound icon next to the time and select Recording properties. In the Recording properties right click on Arrey Microphone and select set as default. If this does not help. Uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers. To uninstall the sound drivers click on start and type DEVICE. Open device manager from the results and then look for sound devices. Click on the Plus sign next to Saound and audio devices. Right click on the SigmaTel entry there and select uninstall. Put a check on remove this driver from the computer. Once done restart the computer and go to support.dell.com and click on Drivers and Downloads. Enter your system service tag and download the Sigmatel audio drivers and install them. Check if the MIC works after the restart. If the Arrey microphone is set as the default and you have uninstalled and resinstalled the drivers and it does not work in MSN try recording with the Windows sound recorder and see if it works there. To open the sound recorder click on start and type SOUND. Open sound recorder from the results. Incase the mic does not record even in the recorder it could be bad or have a loose connection. If in warranty call/chat with the Dell technical support. If the warranty has expired consult a local computer guy.
Normally every Lap is coming wit internal mic; so 1- Simply check your mic is mute or not
2 - Check your mic volume
3 - Use sound recorder that comings with windows (just record & play)
4 - Use an external MIC (known as working) with sound recorder
5 - Check in control panel->sound and audio device --> default recording device and Voice recoding device as your system’s built-in audio device (some times it’s changing when we installing b-tooth deice)
6 - Check device manager --> under sound audio controller for any issues
7 – Uninstall & install completely your Audio Device driver with default settings. ** If you didn’t solve your prob; my advice is take your lap to a good technician with component level Repair skills. Thank you & Best Regards Dinu..
This usually just gets reinstalled whenever you restart your computer be it Vista or XP. In your case, the drivers for the Microphone probably got deleted. The Microphone driver comes in the package together with the sound card. You'll have to re-install the whole sound card driver to have it start working again. You can do this from the Device Manager. After doing this, the microphone together with the whole sound card drivers should start working again.
