My Windows XP Home Edition(licensed version) does not boot (hangs) does not go beyond desktop, I have to reset which leads to checking the drives. A windows 7 has been copied to a drive which is working...

Hi,
First of all you need to have the Windows XP cd to install it on your computer. And also if you have the copy of the of the product key to reacvtivate it again. that is all you need to reinstall XP again on your computer. You will also need the drivers cd for the computer to function again normally.

thank you for using Fixya. you recommendation is highly appreciated.

Windows xp home edition reinstall

If you use his disk, that will be better, because if it is original HP disk, it should install all original drivers at all, however this may delete all files on the computer depending on the type of installation you do.

Installing an older version of XP home does not make a big difference , as windows will update the system using automatic updates. What must be done, is ensuring that all proper drivers are installed.

Check device manager, in control panel/system, and see if all devices are installed with proper drivers.
