Question about Canon Pixma MP500 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Do you have the scanner driver loaded? Try uninstalling your drivers unplug the printer. Then re-install the printer software then plug it back in!!

Do you know where he downloaded the driver to on your computer? Is it still there?
Go to this site and select Vista and then your desired language.
http://software.canon-europe.com/product...
When downloaded double click to start the install process BUT take out your printers usb cable before you start and then when instructed to by the driver install - plug it back in
Delete the other download, here is the link for the MP510:
http://software.canon-europe.com/product...
After unziping you should see a file called either "Setup" or "Install" double click that to start
No problem, Anytime..
:) No problem! I hope he gets it fixed for you!
If not, you know where I am !!
Hi, :)
Does the pc recognise the device at all?
M
What happens when you try to scan? Do you get an error message?
Do you press the button on the pc (via the mouse) or on the scanner itslef?
We have to have patience in this game :)
Sorry for the delay Ive had a busy week in work!
To be honest It's getting harder to diagnose without seeing the pc.

Hey thanks moncapitann, this advise makes sense, but I don't know how to do this. I have a new computer and the computer guy downloaded the driver for Vista. Has he missed something? Where do I find the right drivers? thanks :-)
I've looked in Downloads and can't see any Canon files, but in Programs there's these files: Prn 2kxp, Scn, enmus, MP510 pr,MP510 pr, Mp510 sc, MP510 Ca, and readme. Does this make any sense to you?
Thanks so much for your help. I followed your instructions, though the download was for a MP500, mine's MP510. After all the files were downloaded nothing happened. I unzipped all the files but didn't know what to do next.
Any suggestions?
thanks
You've been fantastic with the help you've given me, thanks so much :-). I had a go at it, but I'm too scared to turn my virus protection off, so it didn't work. This is a new computer and I'd be a bit upset if I crashed it, so I'll phone the guy who built this computer and see if he'll do it for me.
Thanks again moncapitaan for your help.
Hey moncapitaan, I had a go at installing the new drivers - it seemed a waste after all the help you gave me to chicken out and get the computer dude to do it for me. I couldn't figure out how to turn off my virus protection (he installed some free thing because the Panda stuff he tried to install didn't work, so I have to go back for that anyway) and my printer still won't scan. So, I'll get the virus protection thing sorted out, then have another go.
I wish I had my old computer it was so much simpler than this new one. I had everything working beautifully.
Hope you're having an awesome day :-)
Hey moncapitaan, I'm back again. What a saga it's been with the new computer, it's been rebuilt 3 times and now seems to be running like a well behaved computer should.
I followed your instructions for downloading and installing the driver to make my printer scan and so sad, so bad, she still won't scan :-(( What do I do now?
Yeah, the printer will copy and print but just won't scan. Over to you guru, sir!
No wonder you are a guru, such patience :-)
Here's what happens:
I press Scan, get a menu from which I choose 'Save to PC'
Press OK
Image of scanner comes up and the choice to press the black or the colour button. I press one of these, usually the black and nothin' happens. I've tried this about a million times (slight exaggeration).
What now mon capitaan?
.... and you know that patience has its own rewards :-)) I press the OK button on the printer/scanner. It never occurred to me to click the mouse and yep, I'm trying it right now.... nothin' A left click does nothin' a right click activates the print option....
over to you guru, sir
Dear Moncapitaan,
Â
At last my scanner is working. All I needed was some software. The particular one I needed was MP Navigator, can't remember the version. I downloaded it from www.canon.com.au
Â
Thankyou for all your help. My sanity is saved.

Millymooooooooo.
