ASUS DRW-1608p35 the thing will make slideshow dvd's through ULEAD software but won't recognize blank disk when trying to copy photo's to cd (win xp) and has cache failure with nero program, please help before the wife kills me.

got rid of a few programs including a dvd multi region thing... seems to make music and picture cd's now.. have'nt tried a dvd yet

Odd considering video uses more bandwidth and cache than photos....how much ram is in your computer, and where are th ephotos youre attempting to copy?

Good day sir, Try to clean it with a CD lens cleaner if problem persist.I recommend replacing your optical disk drive or use it as a slave for reading CD's so that your new ODD will last long. in my opinion most DVDRAM, player etc. can read most formats except Bluray disc. using the device from reading CD,VCD and DVD lessen's the device life span.
sometimes if we rarely use the ODD its already not working.

Hello I bought yesterday an ASUS DRW-24B3ST and a new computer and can't install win7 from USB because of missing CD/DVD driver

my advice is use another computer that has a cd/dvd burner and burn the copy of windows on to a blank disk that way you should be able to install windows

YOu may need to update the firmware, try the asus web page for further information on doing this and be certin you want to as well as it can lead to a dead drive if font improperly,,, I know where to loacte the firmware on asus home page but i will not post the link, if you wish to do this then go to the home page and you will find it there... In my experience i'd suggest change the drive.

The above internal burner not picking up blanck dvd-r

strictly speaking this is the correct response from your writer, as the disk "is" blank. Your DVD burning software, Like cloneDVD or Nero, should recognise the "blank" and then allow you to burn your disk image. you need to check that your DVD/CD authoring software is installed correctly and updated for all the latest features.
