The SIM card from my old Cingular phone won't work when I insert it into my Sony Ericsson P990i. The Sony phone is unlocked. Do I need a special kind of SIM card? I am not very technical so this may be a silly question.

Re:
How old is your current SIM-card ?
There was a change in operating-voltage on the SIM-cards and its a known issue that the P990i wont accept "older" cards.
Contact your provider and get a newer card. You could perhaps try one of your friends SIM-cards in your phone, before ordering a new one, if the card is newer than the one you have.

This Problem can be caused if the Sim slot in the phone is not tight enough.
Try removing the Sim card and replace it ensure you press
very hard to make it stay in place so that the chip on the Sim card touches the Sim card panel on your phone.
If this does not work then the Sim holder is faulty and it needs to be replaced and you wont experience the problem anymore
