The SIM card from my old Cingular phone won't work when I insert it into my Sony Ericsson P990i. The Sony phone is unlocked. Do I need a special kind of SIM card? I am not very technical so this may be a silly question.

Re: SIM card from old phone won't work in new phone
How old is your current SIM-card ?
There was a change in operating-voltage on the SIM-cards and its a known issue that the P990i wont accept "older" cards.
Contact your provider and get a newer card. You could perhaps try one of your friends SIM-cards in your phone, before ordering a new one, if the card is newer than the one you have.

If you want to unlock the Sony to use it with a different phone provider then this may help you. When you place a new or a existing SIM card from another phone provider into your mobile phone and it asks for a Security code then :- This phone is locked to the original mobile phone provider. You need to contact this mobile provider to ask for the unlock code (security code) for this phone. You need to provide proof of ownership etc and the phone's unique IMEI number which is located inside the phone under the battery. They use this number to generate the unlock code for your phone. They should provide you with instructions on how to enter this code into the phone. Once you unlock the phone, then you can insert a new SIM card in this phone or sign up with another phone provider using this phone. You could ring the phone provider and ask for the unlock security code because you are going overseas and wish to use your phone with a prepaid SIM card from another country. This maybe a free service. The other way to get your phone unlock is to use a phone unlocking company on the Internet, they usually charge a couple of Dollars for their services.Use Google and search for "Security unlocking code” companies in your area. IF U ARE USING THE SAME CARRIER AS BEFORE (ATT FOR EXAMPLE) IT WONT NEED UNLOCKED. IF U WERE GIVEN A NEW SIM CARD FROM UR CARRIER WHEN THE NEW PHONE WAS BOUGHT, THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO USE THE SIM CARD. THE CARRIER ATTACHES THE SIM CARD NUMBER TO UR ACCOUNT. YOUR OLD ONE CAN BE USED ONLY TO ACCESS YOUR CONTACTS, BUT NOT TO MAKE CALLS.YOU CAN HOWEVER PUT THE OLD SIM CARD IN UR NEW PHONE FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF TRANSFERRING UR CONTACTS, THEN REPLACE YOUR NEW SIM CARD INTO UR NEW PHONE
i do have a sony ericsson p990i phone and it has a couple of virus in it's internal memory and it has to be delleted, do you have any software/s for it to be delleted a free downloads to be precised? i hope you could help me... thanks a lot guys!
You can lock the SIM and/or the phone. PIN or SECURITY codes you'll have to use one or the other of the codes so in this case you have three ie: 1 for SIM #1 and 1 for SIM #2 plus 1 security code for the phone.
Put the original SIM in the phone and go to tools and switch off phone security code. Then change sim.
First need to find the IMEI for your phone. Power on phone
and type *#06# this will display the IMEI. You will need the IMEI to get the corresponding unlock code. Every phone has a different unlock code. Then call your provider and request the unlock code.
