Panasonic pt-51g53w set starts to power on then clicks and shuts down, how easy is this to troubleshoot and fix?

  • Anonymous Jun 26, 2008

I do have the same problem with the set turning on then after a couple on minutes it snaps off with a pop. In the past if I just smacked the top of the set it would pop back on. Now however that is not working and the set just comes on with a thin twisting line in the middle of the set.I still have sound just no picture. Could this be the way the TV was wired this problem only started after my set was rewired by the cable service guy?

Usually, when a Panasonic projection powers up for a few seconds and then shuts down, it is because one of the convergence IC's is shorted and drawing too much current. This is usually very easy to troubleshoot because the shorted IC causes one of the large reisitors near it to glow red hot just before the set shuts down. The set should be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with Panasonic projection sets.
