Try reformatting it by inserting into a card reader connected to PC. If it is indeed only a bad sector in the card then you will lose data but still salvage your card. Otherwise you will lose both card and data. Also, if you are using a linux OS then there are data retrieval methods available from corrupt cards as well. Kindly clarify OS.
This camera needs some internal memory free in order to work at all. It can't use memory in the memory card unless it has some internal memory free. You need to delete some pictures in internal memory.
It should use the memory card memory automatically. If it can't use the card (if card is incompatible) there will be an error message. Some cameras can't use SDHC cards even though they fit in the SD slot. Or the card may need formatting. But first you need to free some memory in the internal memory.
