Check if your GR-D50AS really is that model by plugging it into a Linux pc (eg. Ubuntu) and doing lsusb at the commandline. This should tell you the actual modeltype that the cam identifies itself as.
The GR-D50AS I have is actually a GR-DX25EK, and those drivers are more readily available (driverguide.com, JVC main site etc).
You should be able to get the Installation CD from the internet else you wont be able to use the Cam, because the Installation CD has the driver software in it. Go to the JVC site and browse.
JVC has issued a notice on many models that bring up a "lens cap" error. However, the GR-DX25EK is not included. The model you have posted on its page(GR-DX95) is though.
This problem is still very common with models that aren't on the said list, given that and the fact that your model is from the same series, you might get some consideration from JVC. No harm in trying.
The listed models get a free repair.
