931B tries to come on but shuts back off

I turn the monitor on and it tries to come on but simply flashes to the windows login screen for a split second then turns off again right away. It repeats this over and over every 2 or 3 seconds. When it turns off you can see its trying to display the "no signal" detected but the screen goes black before you can actually read it. This just started happening, its not my computer or video card they all work fine. I suspect the power supply board or the little board where the video connector plugs in is faulty?

I took off the power board and replaced 3 caps that had bulging tops and now it all works fine.

I removed the power board and replaced 3 suspicious looking electrolytic caps with bulging tops and now it works perfect. :)
    2 caps were 820 uF 25V which I used 1000 uF 25V instead.
The other was a 470 uF 25V which I had a direct replcement.

Same here. Slight whistle from the PSU as well. Showed a reduced brightness display and then shut off.
Problem solved by changing 3 capacitors (also bulging visually).
The ESR of the faulty caps: about 5 ohms.
Seems to be a common problem with cheap Chinese power supplies.

Problem solved by changing 3 capacitors (C112, C113, C316).

Replace the 470uF 25V with a good quality low ESR type and the two 820uF 25V with 1000uF 25V low ESR types.

The 1000uF caps should be 10x20 in size, however I managed to get 13x20 caps in, but it was a bit tight.

Samsung 931B Monitor Screen will not stay

jane657, Hi there. Will you stop pushing the On/Off button on your lcd/fpd. It's Broke. Period. End. Finito!!! You will not fix it. However there is one test that you should do to determine hoe bad the problem is. You will need to reconnect the 931B to a known good pc that has been fully booted and has the WIN-DESKTOP or IE fixya web page showing. quickly connect the931B to the wall outlet and the PC. Turn on the monitor!!! Yes, I know it will only come on for a second..After the screen goes to BLACK, Shine a bright flashlight onto the screen at different angles, 1-2 inches from the screen. Let me know if you see something even though the screen is black. Anyway here are your options as a consumer/user. 1. Check if unit is under warranty. 2. Check withh Samsung to see if they have a SWAPOUT program. You send them your monitor+$40-$90 and they return a refurbished same model to you with a 30 day warranty. 3. Trade in for new monitor. 4. Check with local TV/Monitor repair guy who knows all there is to know about cold-cathode-fluorescent-tubes, their power-source(inverter type) and lcd monitor power supplys (SMPS) 5. Repair on your own. Not recommended for amatures with no solid state troubleshooting skills and no instrumentation for support. Bye for now. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aim.com

SyncNaster 931B

take a soft cloth (type used for cleaning glasses) and moisten it with a small amount of water on one corner.

gently wipe the wet portion of the cloth across the screen (if you have any weak alcohol based cleaners you can try it. I have used hand sanitizer before on my 931b w/out problems, I wouldn't use any extremely strong liquid cleaners though).

Use the dry part of the cloth to wipe the area dry, then move to another part of the monitor once you are satisfied.

Monitor shuts off during boot. Let the machine boot full up, hit the power button, the monitor flashes windows for a split second, and goes back to power saving mode

Hey there Celius,

Chances are the 'Refresh Rate' somehow got set too high for the monitor. On flatscreens , the result is a black screen.

If you have an old monitor (crt type) hook that up temporarily and reboot.
  • Right Click the Desktop
  • Click Properties
  • Click Settings
  • Click Advanced
  • Click Monitor
  • Lower the refresh rate or set at optimal
  • Check the box 'Hide refresh rates this monitor can't display'
Shutdown, Switch back monitors and try it now.

Good luck
Mike

Monitor is black and blue light flashing

Boot from safe mode and try a different pixel/color arrangement. Obviously a lower pixel and color setting.

Monitor flashes image for split second then goes blank but green LED flashes as well

while the monitor is still powered on, but with the LED flashing, unplug the monitor from the PC. press the power button, and the monitor should go off, now plug the pc back into the monitor. Turn the monitor back on and it should work.

Occasionally this will not work for me, but if I repeat it it normally works

Hope this helps - my problem is intermitant so it may be different to what u guys have
