We have a Kenmore fridge model # 106.56239400 and the fridge side is set to the highest setting and is just barely cooling-not cool enough to store milk. The freezer side is fine. We had a tech out today from some fly-by-night company and he couldn't figure out the problem. After talking with his boss on his cell phone, the boss decided it was the computer board. If it is in fact the computer board, where is it located, can I pick one up, and is it difficult to replace? any help is greatly appreciated as they claim this fix will cost $400.00!!
I had the same problem and the repairman said I needed to have an expensive replacement (of something that controlled the flap that regulates the airflow in the top of the frig section). I asked why it couldn't just be propped open? One wooden scewer broken in a few pieces to hold it open worked great--and still works 2 years later. VERY LOW TEC
Shaggy, This board is not the easiest to replace but if you take your time it can be done. The board is in the control panel. The panel has to be dropped and the board is held in with plastic clips. The control cover panel snaps off to access the front screws, then there are two screws undernieth. The harness's to the board are sometimes difficult to plug in once you have it set in place. Best to plug them in before snapping it in place. I believe the board comes with a new decal that sticks on. Board part number is 2252183 and Sears has a price of 222.49. You might be able to do better at repairclinic.com. I'm assuming that the fly-by night ruled out any defrost or damper problems. There is also a temperature thermistor that sits on the damper that could be out of range. He would of had to run the diag test or ohm this out to verify that. If your temps are too warm in the refer side, here is what to look for: refrigerator thermistor failure, run the diag test. Excessive frost on the evaporator, check defrost system in test mode. Refrigerator light not shutting off when door closed. Air damper not opening or blocked. Condensor coils clogged or condensor fan not running. Evaporator fan not running. Behind your toe panel is a tech sheet that will show you how to run the diag tests...Catriver.
SOURCE: Kenmore refrigerator won't cool, but freezer does.
by closing that small door you are starving the refrig of cold air . you should be getting a heavy whisper of air through that door. place all controls in the middle position, close the freezer door and check for airflow through that vent.

The drain in the freezer behind back lower panel
needs opening. You can see it at the bottom of the back panel
underneath the evaporator coils. (The cold coils)
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
When the defrost melts the water it goes down the drain
If the drain is clogged with Ice or ? The defrost water
overflows into the ref. or freezer or on floor
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

Thanks Catriver!! I found the tech sheet and ran the diagnostic tests. Everything checked out perfectly so I did the sensible thing and decided to do simple to difficult in the range of problem solving. I defrosted the fridge/freezer then restarted everything. Guess what? Problem solved! The fridge is set to "normal" rather than "high" and the milk is as cold as when we first got the fridge!! Thank you for your quick response and your info!!
