Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lens error I keep this Elph in a tiny, padded Halliburton case because the last TWO I bought ended up with broken screens. I never had a problem, though lightly used. Last night I recharged the battery and inserted it. Immediately upon power-up, the lens went out and I got a "Lens error, restart camera" error. I turned it on and off about twenty times, left the battery out overnight: same thing. I jiggled the lens with the same result. Canon tech support told me to take the battery out and toggle the power switch seven times. Same deal. So they said to send it in. But I have no idea where my POP is and it may be over a year old. Any ideas? Thanks, Rick

I have the same problem with my SD 600. The lens will not open and the

Question about Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS Digital ELPH Camera

common problem ask the photo shop.

1- the powershot is set on when the battery is to low
then the lens will be blocked due to less current.

2-the lens is blocked bij a little tiny sandpiece.

Everytime you turn it on it loads then turns itself off without retracting the lens and does it everytime you try to use it

I dropped my CANON IXUS 65 on tarmac, while lens was extended. Thereafter would not retract and lens error. The IXUS 65 is european version of USA SD60 or SD630 Digital ELPH.
Tried pushing the lens back as explained below, clicked , but still would not work. I disassembeled the camera and removed the lens/motor assy. Then disassembeled the lens assy. 1 tiny pin had become dislodged causing the problem. 2 more of same tiny pins fell out. Now im not yet sure how/where they go back into place. If I cannot figure it out I see one can buy a new lens assy for circa $30 and just install it. I used my mobile phone camera to take video and shots of the disassembly steps. This to help re-assemble. I also disassembeled/ reassembeled several times as its trick and lots of tiny screws. To remove the pcb cables one gently pulls them using a small plyers or plastic gripper. [email protected]

Hi! Im Michelle from Dubai UAE, i bought my canon elph series camera last july 09 only and just yesterday after turning on the device the lens was stock up and not turning to its place anymore,.i tried to...

sir it might be a lense problem i guess............the spring with which lense moves may be not proper............. slidin of lense is not aceessble by ur better if show it to ur provider.......they replace it to u .......if u have warranty card then it is well and good........

Dropped camera- lens will not go back in-

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

In the screen says lens error

Hi I had the same problem with a codak C743. I cleaned the lens casing from out outside as much as I could and sprayed a tiny bit of WD40 making sure not to get it on the lens itself.

Then I kept turning it on, and zooming in and out until I got the lens error message, switched it off, the on again, wipe, new WD40, zoom etc. repeated this s number of times until the lens was freed.

I think I had some sand/ dirt around the casing.

Worth a try I guess.

I have the same problem. How do you restart the camera. I have pulled the battery and SD card, but can't get to a menu screen to restart to camera.

Sorry, missed your previous posts. The following blog outlines some simple repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty. Hope they help:

Wish you the best of luck. But keep in mind though that you have a 50/50 chance of repair with the above techniques. If they don't work, the camera likely needs replacement of the lens assembly. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the repair (a LOT of things in the way), the cost of such a repair usually outweighs the value of the camera.

The following two links are repair guides for fixing a cracked LCD on similar SD500/600 models. They include some photos that may help illustrate how deeply buried the lens assembly is in the sd elph cameras.
