There should be a 15 pin on your laptop for the cable from your monitor to plug directly into chuck

No Audio on external device via VGA

Dear Paul,

VGA cables have no provision to carry audio signal - they only carry video signals.

In general, external monitors that also have speakers have RCA-type or miniplug-type audio inputs. In this case, you will need to use another audio cable to connect the phones output of your laptop to the input of your monitor, using a suitable cable.

If you provide us the model number of your laptop, as well as the one for your external monitor, we could try to find the info regarding the kind of audio cable needed to connect both.

Hope you may find this information useful!

Best regards,

My screen keep going white

To me this is a hardware problem.

Let's diagnose, and see Shunka_Reid.
Connect a VGA monitor to the laptop.

A) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port, on the laptop.

http://support.gateway.com/s/notebook/2009/gateway/nv/NV78/NV78lv.shtml

Number 3 - External VGA display port

General example of VGA connector (port), and VGA cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_Connector

Scroll down a little for the VGA cable example.

You can use a CRT type of monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.
General example of a CRT type of monitor,

http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-a-crt-monitor.htm

B) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.
By factory default settings, the display should show on the external VGA monitor.

IF not;
There are at least 3 display options available;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor.
3) External VGA monitor ONLY.

Press, and hold the Fn key down, and at the SAME time tap once on the F4 key.
The F4 key is the Display Toggle-Over key.

Still no?
Hold the Fn key down again, and tap on the F4 key once more.

Do you get a good display on the external VGA monitor?
Post back in a Comment.

Also, has the laptop ever been cleaned on the Inside, to your knowledge?

Th problem is lcd

No display on laptop's internal monitor, and there is no blinking cursor?
Start with seeing if it is a display problem.

Connect a VGA monitor to the laptop. If the display does not show on the external VGA monitor, the problem is the graphics chipset.

You did not state the model number of the Fujitsu laptop, therefore all I can give is generic basic information.

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the laptop.
This is an example of a VGA Cable, and a VGA connector,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

The VGA connector (Port) on your laptop is either on the side, or back of the laptop. May be marked on laptop as RGB.

You can use a CRT type of VGA monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor that has a VGA cable.

2) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By default the display should show on the external VGA monitor.
If not there are at least 3 display options;

1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Press the Fn key down, and at the same time tap once on the Display Toggle-Over key.

The Display Toggle-Over key is one of the F keys at the top of your keyboard. F1 through F12.
It will have a monitor symbol on it.
(For example most HP laptops use the F4 key )

No display on external VGA monitor? Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the Display Toggle-Over key.

If no display shows on the external VGA monitor you have a bad graphics chipset. Motherboard replacement.

If a display does show on the external VGA monitor, you have a problem with the Video Cable, and/or in the Display Assembly.

Post back with the results, after using an external VGA monitor, in a Comment.

Screen blank with white dot

Problem with;

1) Video cable:

A) Video cable connection on motherboard side is loose, and/or on back of LCD screen.

B) Video cable is damaged.

2) screen Inverter:

screen Inverter is bad.

3) LCD screen:

LCD screen is bad.

4) Graphics chipset:

Graphics chipset is bad.

Suggest you connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port (Connector) on your laptop.
See if the problem is the graphics chipset, Or video cable, Or display assembly.

You didn't state what manufacturer and Model Number of laptop this is.
All I can do is state generic information.

This is an example of a VGA Cable, and VGA connector,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

The VGA connector will be on the side, or back of your laptop.
For the VGA monitor you can use a CRT type monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor that has a VGA cable.

Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect the external VGA monitor to the laptop.
Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.

Turn the laptop on.
By default the display should show on the external VGA monitor.
IF not;

There are at least 3 display options.
1) Laptop internal monitor ONLY
2) Laptop internal monitor AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Press, and hold down on the Fn key, and at the same time tap once on the Display Toggle-Over key.
(For an example HP's usually use the F4 key for a Display Toggle-Over key)

Display shows the same on the external VGA monitor?
You have a bad graphics chipset.

[ Some laptops have been erroneously stated as having a graphics card, when in fact they do not.
The GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is soldered directly to the motherboard.
This is Integrated Graphics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

There is no changeable, replaceable graphics card. Therefore the solution is motherboard replacement ]

IF, the display is good on the external monitor, you have a problem with the Video Cable, and/or in the Display Assembly.

After diagnosing with an external VGA monitor, post back in a Comment.
Also post the manufacturer name, and model number of the laptop.

The power on my medion akoya is on but the screen comes up blank. What could cause this problem please? Thank you.

Could be a number of things. Check in this order:

(before going through the list, have a quick look to see if there is a build up of dust around the vents, if you can hear any hard drive or DVD rom noise and feel air blowing out the back of the laptop.)
  1. Plug an external monitor into the laptop and see if you get an image (if you do not, then there is an issue with the graphics or motherboard)
  2. If you get an image on an external monitor, the problem lies with the screen backlight or inverter or the cable that connects the laptop to the screen. Check for chafing cables that might be visible. If you see no damage, you need to have the screen checked by a repair shop unless you want to remove and replace the screen yourself.
  3. If on connecting the laptop to the monitor produces no image, leave the laptop running a while, feel at the exhause vents to see if warm/ hot air is blowing through. If it is, there is a chance that the CPU is still working and the issue lies with the graphics chip. In any case, you should hear a beep as the laptop starts up, a missing beep or any other beeps indicate that there is a problem with the CPU (no beeps) or motherboard (multiple beeps).
  4. You will then need to open up the laptop and check that there is no accumulation of debris around the CPU fan and heatsink and that the fan is operating wthout being clogged. Overheating is the biggest killer of laptops and this model along with HI Grade and E-System laptops are prone to it.
