I have a Mitsubishi WS-65413 65 in. Rear Projection TV. This has been a great TV with no problems as of yet. My concearn is its getting up there in age and I wanted to purchas a new lamp for the tv. I just...
WS-65413 is a Mitsubishi set first made in 2003. It uses three picture tubes and no lamp or bulb.
About the only problem these sets ever have in them is failure in the convergence circuit--it happens with age.
If the picture looks good about the only service they ever need is to have the lens on the three tubes cleaned about once a year--if the lens are dusty the picture will be somewhat darker and dull---gradual change--It also has a large mirror that depending on if you are in a dusty environment can be cleaned as well.
Usually the mirror because of the way it is mounted does not need cleaning. Two ways to do this:
If you just want to clean the lens turn the set off--UNPLUG IT and remove the back cover--you will see the three large black lens units---clean them with a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on it.
The other way is tricky as you have to remove the entire front screen assembly--most of the time you have to remove the speaker grills, and inspection plate and unplug the front keyboard---four or five screws along the bottom of the screen unit secure it and with them out you lift the entire unit up(good idea to have 2 people do this and not flex it--you can dislodge the screens from the frame if you are not careful) and out.
What I usually do is remove the back cover and stick my head in and look at the mirror from the inside of the set--if it looks clean without grime or dust--let it be and just clean the lens.
If you want to improve the sets picture after you put everything back--go into the customer menu and select convergence--there will be instructions on screen telling you what to do--select advanced convergence and with the device or input button go to a unused video input----look at the grid of lines--if red or blue are off a little you can adjust with the Mitsubishi remote--the better the convergence is adjusted the better the set will look.
Usually if not any circuit problem---cleaning the lens, mirror, and adjusting the convergence is all that needs to be done.
