SONY DCR-TRV285E Hello my SONY DCR-TRV285E not working from today onwards. It says 'Reinsert the cassette' with a music. I tried all options like using another cassette, removed battery and again loaded etc but nothing works. Any help will be useful.

Hi All, I have a Sony dcr-hc20 with the same problem. When you try to record or play back the tape it says "reinsert the casette". But no matter how many times you do it, the error is the same. I called Sony but the technician ?, who was in India and spoke so fast you could hardly understand him, who said to push the reset button but he didn't know where it was. Did that and other things but nothing worked. He told me that Sony will repair it for $ 212.00 plus shipping. Wow ! I can get a new one for $ 198.99. If anyone has any suggestions or knows where I can get a repair manual please let me know. I'm willing to try !

    Thanks,

Hi lskumar!I have also got SONY DCR-TRV285E and it gives the same problem as yours. It took me long 3 months to get around the problem. I surfed a lot and found that many people are facing the same problem with sony cameras.

Now the fix is - When your camera gives "Reinsert the cassette" message", take a pen / pencil like object and push the reset switch on the camera. Its just below the volume +- buttons. The camera would restart. See if this solves your problem. If it doesn't then switch off the camera and apply Indian style of repair - Give 1-2 slaps on the cassette side but don't hit too hard. Then switch on and reset again. Repeat 2-3 times if necessary.

This is weird but it works for me. I got this solution from some forum on internet. Hope it works for you too!!! Remember, this is only a temporary solution. The problem keeps on arising every now and then. The SONY ppl don't have any cure for this. They don't know why it happens.

One more thing. Buy a good head cleaning cassette. This would give new life to your camera-head.

Have a nice day! Do tell me if it works..

Reinsert cassette

Turn the unit off and hit the back of the camera twice near the battery compartment with the palm of your hand. Sounds crazy but it worked with my camcorder Sony DCR-TRV480. Problem started when I used 8MM Head Cleaner. I think the roller got stuck inside camcorder. The trouble code came up C:31:22. Hope this helps.
