Hello, I am having an issue with my Ipod. It gives me an error code when I plug it in saying that it cannot sync because the files or directory has become corrupt and unreadable. Someone on the Apple site suggested (to someone else with a simular issue) that this could be caused by locked files in the directory. I am good at following step-by-step instructions, but have no clue how to even access this directory so I can *see* if anything is locked. Any ideas? Thanks!!
THE SOLUTION IS EASY, REBOOT YOUR IPOD! IT WILL WORK!
I JUST SPENT DAYS GOING CRAZY ABOUT THIS!!! I CALLED APPLE TWICE AND THEY TOLD ME TO REINSTALL AND UPDATE BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING..
THEN I FOUND SOMEONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALL THEY DID WAS REBOOT THEY'RE IPOD.
HOLD DOWN THE MIDDLE AND MENU BUTTON ON YOUR IPOD, GIVE IT 10 SECONDS, LET IT BREATHE AND THEN PROCEED TO HOOK IT UP TO YOUR ITUNES(RESTART YOUR ITUNES AS WELL)...
VOILA IT SHOULD WORK AND SYNC...

I know how to sync my ipod, but the only thing is, until a couple of days ago everything was fine. But now whenever I go to "File" to select "sync ipod", then it's always faded! How do I fix this?? Someone please help me. The computer doesn't recognize my ipod when it's plugged in, and my ipod doesn't recognize that it's plugged in. I can't transfer any songs from itunes, so someone help me, please!!!

For anyone having trouble with the sync to ipod not working try this......... when you plug your ipod in be sure to check your "my computer" section and see if your ipod is registering to your computer. if it is then remember the drive letter (D:/, E/: etc...)
then go to itunes and go to the file menu and hit export library and select the drive letter that your ipod registered under.

Try resetting the ipod, this usually works. As follows: How to reset iPod To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including: iPod nano (3rd generation) iPod classic iPod (5th generation) iPod nano (2nd generation) iPod nano iPod with color display (iPod photo) iPod (Click Wheel) iPod mini iPod mini (2nd generation) Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. To reset iPod, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod (dock connector) Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep. If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button. When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Use winamp instead of itunes. Download apple ipod plugin. Then I use this program to sync all of music, podcasts, and video. It works better then Itunes. I don't get anymore errors trying to sync files or that can't write to disk.

I had the same problem and tried most of the solutions with no luck. When I tried to "sync" I kept getting the "69" error code about midway throught the process. I noticed that it kept coming up on 1 certain song everytime on my library. So I just went into the library and found that song and "deleted it" and the next try on syncing it worked and recovered all my songs. Prior to doing that I did reset my ipod and checked manually manage songs prior to syncing it again. I had gone weeks with half my library and was about to give my 30gb away. At least that is what worked for me !!! Try any or all of the solutions on this site...APPLE Support was NO HELP at all !!!

I had that exact same problem it drove me nuts for months i scoured the web looking for answers did everything apple recommended. Sometimes it not as simple as rebooting or reinstalling your ipod it may be a hardware problerm with your computer.I reinstalled and rebooted my ipod several times i re did all my usb drivers reinstalled itunes several times and everything else i could find or think of, then i changed my hard drive thought "hey maybe my hard drive is going bad or corrupterd or somthing" cause i was @ my wits end then got my new 1tb hard drive. Then installed windows still found myself in grief and extreme frustration when the "device is not recognized or supported if this keeps occurring replace device" poped up, then i noticed my ipod wasn't being charged or even recognizing it was being pluged in so my power supply was my next culprit cause i found my computer turning off while i was in the middle of something latter on down the line. I changed it and am now a happy owner of a 120 gig classic that works and my new 32 gig ipod touch so my problem was the power supply but your could be something different.

This won't work for everyone, but for anyone who happened to have set their computers (using msconfig) to run vital processes only, set it back to "enable all" and try again. That's what my "problem" was

I had the same problem it took me awhile to figure it out..
Open itunes at the top left you will see "summary" or just double click on your ipod in my devices,
look and see if you have manually manage music and videos checked, if you do uncheck the box and hit apply, it will start syncing.
THANK YOU! I tried everything on this list and nothing worked UNTIL YOURS!!!!!!!

If anybody is still having this problem, you might want to make sure that when your ipod is connected to your computer, make sure the drive # is R,S, or T. You can do that by clicking on my computer.

maybe - just maybe - if you plug it into your computer and then, if a mac, do the 'get info' bit and look for the info regarding if a file or device is locked.

Because you have all your music already backed up onto your pc you can safely erase your ipod. Have you already tried to do a restore on it yet. To do this connect the ipod to the pc and in itunes on the ipods main screen click the Restore button, then choose the bottom most option if it gives you any. If it says to erase the device anywhere, all the better, select that one.
If that doesn't work, assuming you're on a pc and not a mac, open 'My Computer', right click the ipod, select 'Properties' then erase it as you would any harddrive. Once you have done either of these you can resync it in itunes.
All the best
Sean

I have had the same problems, did all types of restores, formatting, downloading itunes and nothing has changed. I went through about 5 ipod classics because of this problem, Apple could not help me on bit. I later on found out the problem.... My case for the ipod had a magnet inside it which messed up the hard drive causing me to get all types of errors when i tried to sync it or just tried to listen to it. Hope this helps.
