When I try to awitch the phone on, the screen lights up briefly and then goes off again. When I plug it in to the charger, the same happens repeatedly - it switches on then off.
Any thoughts? all my numbers are on the phone memory.....

When you dropped your phone a wire inside of the phone must have snapped and disconnected the phone from the energy switch. I would take it to the company that supports your phone ex. LIME, Digicel Etc. I hope I help
try doing a system reset press the call control button and the volume mute button at the same time for 5 seconds. when the talk indicator light blinks release both buttons. press the call control button again and the talk indicator light will blink again briefly headset is back to normal then unplug the charger from the charging jack for 5 seconds and plug back in headset is reset. if that doesnt work then replace the battery in headset.
Ok...don't panic. The charger you are using is not compatible. Verizon only works with verizon blackberry's. Non verizon will not work with blackberry and vice versa. This is what will happen. you plug it in and it will boot for a few seconds and then the lightning bolt you see is the charge icon and then a red line in it means that charger is not compatable. Blackberry does make its own charger but there is a "pin" on the plug in that will tell it it is not the right one. Am I confusing you?
If the light doesnt turn to orange after a few minutes on the charger then the problem hardware related. Try another battery if there is no change then there is fault in the device, and repairs are required.
also you can try
1. Plug it in the Charger without the battery inside.
2. switch on the power.
3. Without removing the charger plug in the battery.
