I suspect a poor connection problem at the ethernet cable into the ps3.Push on this cable and the light should blink fast not slow.It worked for me after trying all sorts of remedies off the net that didnt help.As soon as i pushed the cable and held it there while re doing my network connections/test everything "succeeded" including system update.I let the cable go, and sure enough,"no ethernet cable connected"message and no internet connectivity!!! Havent fixed the connection yet as off to work, but now i know where the problem is. Hope this helps.
To me it sounds like you are hooking your PS3 through a computer to the internet. If so there is an easy fix for your problem. On your computer open Control Panel, and then open Network Connections. Right-Click on your internet connection and select properties, then on the top tab select Advance. This will open up your network sharing. In the box that says (Internet Connection Sharing), check the box that says (Allow other network users to connect through this computer's connection) click OK. Once you do this it will promt you with a message that some modifications made will not take place till the connection is reset. Then just log off the internet and re-log back on. Then proceed to start your PS3 and redo the internet connection settings on the PS3.
Sounds to me like the built in network controller on the main board is bad. See if you can get on Ebay and buy a broken psp for cheaper then a new one. If you can buy a broken psp with just cosmetic damage then that means the board will be good.
Firstly, take note that Windows Vista doesn't support the Nintendo USB connector (currently there is now way of making it work on Vista, hopefully this will be resolved with the release of Vista Service Pack 1).
Secondly, and this is if you are using Windows XP as your computer operating system, try these steps to enable XP to share it's Internet connection with other computer (for ex your Wii):
1. Click Start -> Control Panel 2. In Control Panel open the Network Connections applet 3. Right-click on your active connection (will be named something like "Local Area Connection" if you use a cable to connect to your router or "Wireless Network Connection" if you use a wireless technology to connect to your router). 4. Click on Properties 5. Select the Advanced tab 6. Check the box named "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" in the Internet Connection Sharing area. 7. For good measure you can restart your PC after checking the box
I hope this is helpful information and thanks for using the FixYa services Regards
