Ripping cds and faulty webcam

Re the Ripping problem, for Win7:

To rip music from an audio CD

  1. Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, click All Programs, and then click Windows Media Center.
  2. If Media Center is not in full-screen mode, click the Maximize button a9bd23ff-99f8-42fd-a627-c155b7e87ddd_75.jpg in the upper-right corner of the window.
  3. Insert an audio CD into the CD-ROM drive on your computer. The CD will start playing automatically.
  4. On the Now Playing screen, click Rip CD. (If you navigated away from the Now Playing screen, you can always return there from the Windows Media Center start screen by scrolling to Music, clicking Music library, clicking Albums, and then clicking the CD you inserted.)
  5. If this is the first time you've ripped a CD, follow the instructions on the CD Ripping Options screen. (You won't see this screen the next time you rip a CD.)
  6. In the Rip CD dialog box, click Yes to rip the tracks to your computer. The ripped music files are automatically added to your Music library.
Re the webcam problem, would need more info. Do you know if the laptop has webcam software installed at all?

To download music to computer

Hi acdcrockwg,

In order to download music onto your computer (which you will need to do before transferring music from your computer to your player), you can purchase music online by individual track or album downloads (there are a number of online music services) or you can purchase a music subscription (such as Rhapsody) which allows you to play music as long as your subscription continues.

Another method of downloading music to your computer is by ripping CD's. For instructions on how to download and also transfer music to your player, visit www.philips.com/support and enter your specific model number in the search engine to arrive at the product page (which includes FAQ's, video tutorials, manuals, etc.). Model numbers typically begin with "SA."

Hope this helps. Let me know by rating this solution. Thanks!

RIPPING CD INSTRUCTIONS:

When a CD is ripped, the audio files such as voice recording, music and audio book are copied into the memory of the computer.

Follow the steps below to rip a CD:
  1. Insert the CD into the CD drive of the computer.
  2. Launch Songbird in the computer.
  3. Once the CD is detected by the software, the audio files in the CD will be shown.
  4. Click the "Rip CD" on the right hand side and the ripping process will begin.

If the audio file is successfully ripped, there will be a tick sign on the beginning of the row showing the name.

Note:
Make sure you are authorized to rip the CD. Unauthorized duplication of any recordings whether downloaded from the Internet or made from audio CDs is a violation of copyright laws and international treaties.

My friend has given me an mp3 player to download cds on to but i'm not sure how to do this? I thought i might try spotify or itunes but i don't know if you can download cds off either of these sites on to...

Go to the player manufacturer's website. They should have software you can download that may make the process much easier. If not, on plugging the player into your computer, it should recognize it as an 'external' drive in which case you can treat it as you would with any external drive.

Windows Vista Premium. Trying to rip a cd to my computer. Unable to do so. CD plays fine if i play music from the cd itself. Tried Itunes 1st. Rips about 12 secs of audio for each song. Says complete....

maybe the windows has this security issues. coz from my point of view windows vista is dedicated on security. so that's why you cannot rip most of the songs very well.

Ripping Disney CD

Some CD's are protected and will not let you rip them to your computer. You may be able to find programs that can get around it, but they are probably illegal.

How to rip musc to my harddrive

Play Recordable CDs Containing MP3/WMA Audio Files
To play recordable CDs containing MP3 and/or WMA audio files:

Press the eject button on the Xbox 360 console (or select Open Tray from any area of the Xbox Dashboard) to open the disc tray.

Place a data CD-R or CD-RW containing MP3 and/or WMA media on the disc tray with the label facing up (to the right if the console is vertical).

Press the eject button (or select Close Tray from any area of the Xbox Dashboard) to close the disc tray.
Go to the Media area of the Xbox Dashboard. Select Music, Current Disc.
To play all tracks on the CD, select either Play All or Add to Current Playlist.

If you have an existing playlist open, Add to Current Playlist will append all tracks on your current CD to that playlist. Selecting Play All will clear a current playlist and create a new one consisting of all the files on the current CD. (Be sure to save your playlist, if desired, prior to selecting the Play All option.) Files are added to a playlist in alphabetical order by file name. Playlists start again from the beginning once the final track has played.
