According to the booklet provided, in order to import pictures to pc using the software (EOS utility)users are supposed to set
"communication" to "pc connection". Ive done tht, but everytime there is a window saying "add new hardware wizard".
This problem is even mentioned in the throubleshooting section of the booklet provided, and it says:
-->click the cancel button, disconnect the dedicated cable, and redo it.
i hav done tht so many times, but cant do anything. By the way, i wasnt having this problem with my pc, but now i do.
PLZ HELP ME!!!
I had the same problem, I think you were missing a driver. if you got to canon usa's page for drivers and downloads you should be able to find it :http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=11154

The CR2 suffix means that the picture was taken in the RAW file format, a proprietary format. This requires that the images be processed by a software conversion to be 'readable' by the computer. The EOS Utility software that came with the camera will work, as well as a number of third-party software packages. GOOGLE "raw file conversion Canon digital rebel" to see the options.
The other option is to take your photos in JPEG format (not RAW). Your computer can 'read' any JPEG format image.
1. got to hp's website (http://www.hp.com)
2. Click on support and drivers
3. click download drivers and software (and firmware)
4. enter you model number (Pavilion Elite m9400t)
5. select your os (vista 64 bit)
6. download the Fall 2008 Original Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver
7. install the driver.
you can do that if you're doing direct printing (camera to printer) using the caera transfer settings, or if you want to save them to your omputer, you need to download the photos using the EOS utility (comes with the camera) and add the [date & time] stamp from the software settings
Some card readers struggle with high capacity (SD-HC) cards and indeed some older devices.
If you (or a friend) has a lower capacity card (less than 2GB) try that in you camera and then pc.
You can purchase a VERY cheap USB card reader (c.£10 max) and it should sort your problem - I hope!
Well, that worked perfectly. Turn on your Rebel XT camera and under Menu then Tools go to Communication and set it to Print/PTP. Thank you to all you very smart people!
remove memory card and try in a card reader if you are not already. othwise, you may have a problem with the computer you are using. try rebooting both. for the camera, remove the battery for about 10 seconds. good luck mark
