Sony DCR-TRV33 not recording well

Hi - My Sony DCR-TRV33 camera records video that is choppy with static (the digital mosaic effect or distortion) and the sound is messy at the same times.

The video can be clean and good, the messed up, then clear again while playing back.

Is there some way to clean the heads on this unit or would this require a service visit to the shop? Its not under warranty any more so would prefer to try myself first.

Sony TRV510-playback, audio choppy, image isn't clear

I was having the exact same problems, and I read a post on this website somewhere recommending that I just record a few seconds of video on a blank portion of tape and then the camera should start playing video normally again.

I tried it, and IT WORKED!!
