Getting audio from a Dell LCD Monitor when connected to a Laptop

I am connecting my Dell Laptop to my Dell W2306C LCD Monitor to watch a DVD. The video appears on the LCD Monitor; however, the audio is coming from my Laptop only. How do I get audio from the LCD Monitor as well/instead?

How do I connect my laptop to a Monitor

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Can i connect a dvd player to a dell e173fpf monitor with a scart to vga adaptor/cable?

You can with an RCA to VGA converter device (Amazon has it for $45 S&H), the AV cables of your DVD player and a pair of amplified speakers. Connect the yellow RCA video cable to this device then your monitor's VGA cable to the device. Also plug in the red & white RCA audio cable to both the device and to your DVD player. Finally connect your speakers to the DVD player ad your'e all set!
