Pedometers do not shutdown. It resets at 12 midnight. It will shutdown only when battery runs out OR you remove it.

Deleting the memory of Omron HJ-720ITFFP is very tricky. Even I tried to do it last week and was unsuccessful.

Paraphrasing the manual - That flashing icon is the "Full Memory Indicator." It flashes when 35 days' worth of data, including current day, are stored in the memory and has not been downloaded.

This website has the instruction manual for the Omron pedometer. It may not be the exact same model as yours but it will still help. I just changed my batteries and have a different model which has the reset button on the back. Still, the basic stuff is there and I was able to re enter all info. Hope this helped.
