I have installed this printer on my new gateway computer which uses Vista. I had to manually install the picture editor and the fax tool. However, I cannot find where to install the All in One interface which allows me to scan items into my computer. on xp the install feature takes care of the all in one interface but it has not happened on my vista.

Vista is a brand spanking new OS. Your printer may need updated drivers to be compatable with vista. It should otherwise install automatically as it has in past. Go to dell website, and download the most recent driver (vista compatable) from them. It wouldn't hurt to see if cahnges in manual too and download it also.

Hi Barbra, Check all connections. Have you installed the printer drivers? Try un-installing and installing the printer drivers again. Was there change in the operating system?[Say you were using windows xp and now you're using windows vista]You may need to install the driver that corresponds with your operating system. You can download the drivers from this link:www.siliconguide.com/drivers/device/583/
Often, older printers do not have drivers for Windows 7. Mostly because the manufacturer decided that this printer is too old to develop new drivers. The only possible solution would be to use Windows Vista drivers. Vista drivers are similar to Windows 7 and have worked for me in the past.
You can also the download the driver from that site if you lost the driver CD. Please note that this printer will only work to Windows 2000, XP and Vista 32 bit OS. Hope this helps.
I have the same problem but with an acer 5570Z. It used to work with the dell all-in-one, however, one day it just stopped working. It always says it cannot communicate with the printer. I've tried uninstalling it, and reinstalling it several times---no luck.
u can do it
there are two ways
the simple one would be the using a usb cable cause now u might ave win vista it will automaticaly pull up the drivers for ur printer if u face any more t/s mail me at [email protected]
Go into Control Panel and complete the Scanner Wizard provided by Windows XP, then try scanning pictures or documents again. If you have the disk to the printer/scanner autorun the installation again. It will just overwrite the old install, not a big deal. If you do not have the disk, look online for the "free installation disk Dell A940 Printer/Scanner" and run from this free website. Let me know how it goes.
