Power = power IR works only if the unit is on. It will give you light in total darkness for up to some 50-80 yds. With any ambient light at all the IR is useless.

Hello, First, don't turn on this Night Owl NODS3 during the day...Bright lights
will destroy the image intensifier tube in mill-seconds. It used on during the
dark hours of the night and look at bright city lights on the poles on homes.
You have two button; one with have o/1 (on/off) then the second but would be
the IR light and it will have the IR on and some time there will be another
button mark A and this button is used to enhance the image.
To turn on the button--all you have to do is to push it. Only in a dark room
with IR button on. and only in the dark of the night. If it doesn't work then

Hello, is the IR glowing red, don't look into the IR lens. Just place your hand in front of it and see the is a red glare on your had. If there is a red glare then IR is work. Another thing when you taking a look see through the Night owl NV monocular there should be a green glow from the image intensifier tube, if not, then the NV monucular isn't working properly. stewbison
Ten year sounds fine. You got ten years out of Russian manufacture NV monocular, even though it has Night Owl Logo on it. Send to me, I new some parts. I can get the gen 1 Russian image intensfier tube, or you can sen to Night Owl Optics in El Paso, TX.
Some of use think we know what we are doing with NV but without parts or even schematic for them we are sometime not ability to fix these NV devises. I have a couple of suppliers that will provide some image intensifier tubes; of course, on American image tubes all American Citzens can buy them but they are really expensive. The ccfl inver, control board, and even the voltage multiplier needs to be manufactured.
Do what ever you think is right, call Night Owl and see what the charges. stewbison
Hi, did you push the IR button? Read the operator manual about looking directly into bright lights and trying to see thing during the day time. This a NO, NO. It made for night vision. stewbison
Hello, this Night Owl monocular will have two light (LED's), one green for on/off, and other red LED for IR illuminator. So, does the green light come on? Also, if still does work, then send it to me. I some parts to fix other NV devise and 95% of them are manufactured in Russia including yours. I wish you all the luck. GB...stewbison
Hello, at night! Please don't use your Nigh Owl Optics to look at light, bright lights, street lights, just use it in the DARK!!!. If it to dark to see throught your Night Owl NV turn on the IR illuminator. Then you can see in those dark rooms, and sneak up on your friends. GB...stewbison
when you said it turns completely off? i have a simular device and it only illuminates faintly, but i have a IR button that lites it up. otherwise unit is in a stand by, IR does the illuminateing of view. its like compareing a quartar-moon to a full-moon. but you could have a switch that is broke. the switch is on a timer to shut off to save battery
